Classic Carrot-Apple-Lemon with a Kick

Ever wonder what the most popular juice is on our site and in our juice-recipe app? After Joe’s Mean Green, it’s the Carrot-Apple-Lemon juice from the Reboot With Joe Juice Diet book. It has a sweet taste that isn’t overwhelmed by any one ingredient.

Kick up this classic juice with the addition of chile pepper. Hot peppers can help boost your metabolism, as they have been shown to increase your caloric burn. Use any hot pepper, like jalapeno, serrano, thai–whatever is available locally. And you don’t have to use a fresh pepper. Alternatively, add a pinch of dried cayenne after juicing.

Ingredients:

  • 4 carrots
  • 2 apples
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 to 2 fresh chile peppers* OR pinch cayenne pepper powder

*Try jalapeno, serrano, habanero, thai, etc.

Directions:

  1. Peel the lemon or scrub well.
  2. Wash and scrub the remaining produce and chop to fit juicer, if necessary.
  3. Juice ingredients. If using, add cayenne powder at the end and stir.

Substitutions:

Carrot – sweet potato, butternut squash, golden beets

Apple – pear, pineapple

Lemon – lime, grapefruit

Chilli – dried cayenne, ginger, turmeric

Total time: 5 minutes

Servings: 1, 16 ounce (500 ml)
