Sand ‘n Sun Smoothie

Last week I was in sunny Florida for my sister’s wedding, enjoying the sun, sand, and fresh tropical smoothies and juices.  Now I’m back in chilly, snowy New England missing the warmth!  So, this morning I decided to start my day with a superfood packed smoothie, reminiscent of our fun times at the beach.
The goji berries offer potent antioxidants for warding off cold and flu, while the aloe helps aid in digestion.  Pineapple contains anti-inflammatory phytonutrients like bromelain and may also help limit inflammatory compounds that can follow high fat meals.  The chia seeds and hemp seeds provide healthy, omega-3 fats that also help to reduce inflammation, promote brain health along with fiber for fullness. Enjoy this electrolyte rich smoothie before or after your workout for a boost in energy!

Ingredients

  • 1/4  pineapple
  • 16 oz (500 ml) coconut water
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 tbsp goji berries
  • 1 tbsp. hemp seeds/hearts
  • 1 tsp aloe
  • 1 handful spinach
  • Squeeze of lime

Directions

  1. Add all ingredients to high-powered blender.
  2. Blend on high until smooth, about 45 – 60 seconds.
  3. Serve and enjoy.
