How did you learn about Reboot with Joe?
My friend sent me a link…I watched it.
What inspired you to do a Reboot?
When Phil answered the question about if he felt full (in Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead) with a ”Yes”, I turned to my wife and said, ”If that big man can feel full off a juice, this fat man can too!”
How did the experience go for you?
I am still doing it…I lost 70.8 pounds in 14 weeks! My goal was to lose 84 pounds in 84 days! I started a personal blog to keep me motivated. www.84lbs84days.blogspot.com. About a week after I started it someone contacted me and said we found your blog and are watching your goal become a reality!
How much weight did you lose (even if that wasn’t your goal!)?
I lost 70.8 pounds in 14 weeks! Some unforeseen life events came up that slowed down my efforts. By the 84th day I lost 68.4 pounds. Which is still huge! My goal is still to lose 84 pounds! Once I reach 166 I will tone up some and probably settle in around 170.
Did you have any notable health or physical improvements?
My doctor says that my good cholesterol increased by 30 points! My bad cholesterol came in at 66… the doctor gave me a range of 0 – 166 and said that I have NO risk for heart disease or any other heart problems.
Technically I am still obese (according to the BMI scale). Diabetes is all over my family tree and low and behold, I was raised on primarily animal products and meat. Born in Montana… meat, pork, bacon, beef, turkey, mayo, butter, you name it… we ate it. However, my step day had his 10th stint put in his heart… That scared me. I wanted a change and was so glad that FSND was introduced to me!
What was the toughest part about the Reboot experience?
Mentality. I knew I had to push myself. Find a way to make it fun. Not show any weaknesses and push forward! My wife says I’m an all or nothing type of guy. I knew that I was the only one that could do this for me. I put myself in some interesting situations. Including, going to sushi for Valentines with my wife and kids while not consuming anything besides water.
With 110+ days into this I am still juicing everyday! When we go to restaurants I make sure that I either juice beforehand or I bring a juice. This helps me avoid the temptation to order meals. My wife actually loves this part of my new lifestyle because I am able to help with the kids while she enjoys her meal. I like it because our bill at the restaurant is cut in half and I am able to socialize and interact with family (and friends) while we are there instead of just putting food in my mouth.
I know Joe drinks his Mean Green. It just didn’t do anything for me. Guess that is why they call it “mean.” I was so inspired that I flipped the switch and BOOM! I just jumped in with both feet! I see no reason for me to ever stop juicing. Even if I only juice one or two meals a day and have a sensible meal my overall nutrition and health will be benefitted! Currently I consume about 90 to 95 percent juice each and every day.
What habits have you maintained and kept a part of your everyday life?
When I do eat, I take small bites and enjoy / savor my food more than I did before. No more stuffing myself. No more seconds and thirds! I learned a few things that will help me keep myself thin and healthy! Like put your fork or spoon down between bites. Something we all know but don’t really think about is that our taste buds stop at the back of our tongue. If you woof something down and put it in your stomach, you no longer are enjoying and tasting those flavors. If you really like what you are consuming take smaller bites, mull it over and allow it to be in your mouth longer. It will actually do a couple things for you including allowing your stomach to communicate with your brain that you are filling up. Which in turn will help you consume less calories and maintain a lower weight. I no longer will allow my tongue or taste buds to dictate my waistline.
What is your lasting impression of the Reboot experience?
It has changed my life! I will never think of food the same! I have learned so much about the power of vegetables, fruits and the nutritional value and vitamins that they contain! Vegetables and Fruits truly are miracles! Little miracles ready to transform people’s lives… if they just take a bite; or drink a juice.
