How did you learn about Reboot with Joe?
I suffered from an autoimmune disorder that left me tired, depressed and overweight. I spent my days working too much and my nights watching tv. That’s all I could manage to do; one of those nights, I stumbled across “Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead” on Netflix. That was the night my life changed.
What inspired you to do a Reboot?
I was so inspired by the people in the movie, especially Phil, that I knew I had to try it for myself. I had been vegan for a long time (which made me think I was being healthy) but still found myself suffering. I figured, well if HE can do it, I surely can.
How did the experience go for you?
I started with a 21 day juice cleanse. During that time, many of the symptoms I was experiencing disappeared. I actually had energy to workout and be social after work, rather than lay around. My mind was clear and my body was in movement! It was after I started reintroducing solid foods to my diet that I learned I had an intolerance to gluten. This experience led to me removing gluten from my diet (and really changing everything I thought I knew about nutrition!) and near complete removal of all symptoms of my thyroid disorder. Within six months I was able to come completely off my medication (which wasn’t doing that great of a job anyways).
How much weight did you lose (even if that wasn’t your goal!)?
During the initial cleanse I lost 20 pounds/9 kg…in the months that followed my diet makeover I lost another 25 pounds/11 kg.
Did you have any notable health or physical improvements?
I used to take medication for my thyroid, for depression, to help me sleep, to help me wake up and daily doses of ibuprofen for general pain. Today I am 100% medication free and happier than ever!
What was the toughest part about the Reboot experience?
The hardest part was the social stigma. It has become so socially acceptable to be sick and the journey to health is often looked upon with scrutiny and judgment. I still work to stay focused on my goals…I’m not quite at my optimal health level, but working towards it every day!
What habits have you maintained and kept a part of your everyday life?
I have abandoned my vegan diet and adopted a gluten free, plant-based diet. I learned that there is no “one size fits all” dietary theory and everyone needs to find what works for them. I continue to juice every day (to get my greens!) and do a 7 day cleanse every month or two.
What is your lasting impression of the Reboot experience?
The Reboot has completely changed my life. Not just my diet. It put me on the path to becoming a Certified Holistic Health Coach and landed me at my dream job working at RebootwithJoe.com
