The Many Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar

I’m a huge fan of apple cider vinegar (such a fan, in fact, that I wrote a whole book about it!). Apple cider vinegar can help with a long list of ailments and health conditions, and works to support excellent overall health. Everyone can do with a bit of this fine fermented vinegar. It’s a simple and inexpensive thing you can do each day to support excellent overall health.

Like all vinegars, apple cider vinegar (often called ACV by those who love it) is a product of fermentation, made by crushing fresh apples and allowing them to mature in barrels with added yeast and friendly bacteria. While many of the benefits of ACV apply to other types of vinegar too, ACV has the added benefit of containing pectin, from the apples, giving it an edge over other vinegars when it comes to potential benefits.

I enjoyed really digging into the research behind the benefits of this ingredient while writing my book, “The Apple Cider Vinegar Cleanse.” Here are some of the highlights:

Healthy Blood Sugar Levels

ACV may help to lower blood sugar levels, making it beneficial for people with hypoglycemia, insulin resistance, and type-2 diabetes. In studies it has been found that consuming ACV can actively reduce starch digestion and delay gastric emptying, helping slow down the release and absorption of sugar.

Weight Loss

Other studies that are cited in my book have demonstrated that those who include apple cider vinegar as part of their daily diet tend to consume fewer calories overall, losing weight and inches from their abdomens.

Healthy Cholesterol Levels

Apple cider vinegar can reduce blood lipids that contribute to high cholesterol and triglyceride levels in people who suffer from hyperlipidemia.

Healthy Blood Pressure

Research is showing that the consumption of apple cider vinegar can naturally help lower blood pressure.

Arthritis

Adding ACV to your daily routine can reduce arthritic pain for many people who suffer with this debilitating and chronic health condition.

Infections

Because acetic acid kills unwanted bacteria when it comes into contact with it, apple cider vinegar essentially acts as a natural antibiotic and antiseptic.

It doesn’t end there!

According to my research, ACV can also help improve digestion including bloating, constipation, flatulence, gut flora (microbiome) health, detoxification support, and gallbladder health. It can reduce morning sickness for pregnant women, and much, much more.

Apple cider vinegar also has some excellent topical benefits in preventing acne, foot odor, toe and fingernail infections. When used topically, it can help heal sunburns and many other skin conditions. It can also be helpful for healthy teeth and hair.

Apple cider vinegar works as a natural food preservative when used for pickling and fermenting vegetables,  and diluted ACV is a quick and easy fruit and vegetable wash. You can also use it as an excellent wood polish, as well as a surface antiseptic.
