I am juicing but have trouble digesting iron. I found that put yesterday when I used a lot of spinach. Can you recommend a green juice recipe that won’t cause havock on my stomach?
Under vegetables to eat, sprouts are listed. I sprout mung bean seeds and red winter wheat. Are these allowed? Not sure if they are a vegetable. One is a bean (legume) and one is a grain.

Thank you for all your help, my daugther 16 years old and me decide to do the Reboot program for 60? days she wants to do this do you think is ok?, she needs to loose about 20 pounds, and me too, w’ll start next week because the juice maker is going to arrive from Missouri next Tuesday!!! In Arizona are sold out.. : )
@Sonia The Reboot is not recommended for anyone under 18. Your daughter can certainly focus on eating more fruits and veggies and incorporate juices as well, but she should not drink only juice for 60 days while she is still growing. Best to you both..

So I watched your movie twice….I am now on day four of my juice fast and I am feeling pretty good!! Lost 10 pounds in my first three days! My goal is at least 10 days….but really need to do 30 to 60 for optimal health and weight loss goal. Hoping I’ll feel so great after ten days that I will be motivated to keep going. Wish me luck!!!

Hello Jerry!! I was wondering if anyone responded to your request for help. I’m starting my reboot tomorrow and my friend, who recommended this to me, gave me the following recipe that he’s been using for the past two week:
> 1 bunch kale
> 4 stalks celery
> 1 cucumber
> 2 granny smith apples
> 1/2 lemon
> ginger root
Basically, juice the above items. What I’m not clear on is how much and when, but he’s been drinking the juice whenever he gets hungry IF it is not a meal time. And when he’s not drinking a juice, he’s drinking water. Hopefully this helps!! And GOOD LUCK!!
Don’t forget to change things up a bit so that you are positive you get all your vitamins, minerals, and protein.
Here are a few tips I picked up during my juicing journey:
• Aim for 2 to 4 liters of juice a day + 64 oz water (you can drink more if you want, but I wouldn’t do less).
• Drink everything at room temperature (this is very important as it zaps your body’s energy to process cold liquids).
• Try to drink your juice after pressing as it loses its potency when it oxidizes or is exposed to light.
• Drink whenever you get hungry or start to lose energy.
• A heavier fruit juice is fine in the morning, but the remaining juices of the day should be very heavy on the veg. 80% veggie/20% fruit.
- chlorella is a great supplement during this time. It is 60% protein and helps pull toxins from your system. I’ve used the brand sun chlorella for a few years now. It’s expensive, but it’s a really nice product.
- if you can get past the first 3 days, you can easily do 10
My 2 favorites for the morning are:
- 5 or so carrots
- 2 apples
- 1 lemon w/out rind
- 1″ piece of ginger
- few dashes of cinnamon
and
- 1/2 beet
- 1 orange
- some papaya
- some aloe vera
- knob of ginger
(sorry, I’m not sure of the exact amounts. I made the carrot one earlier today so it is fresh in my mind.)
I’m still on the hunt for an amazing 100% vegetable juice. (I tend to find the above one a bit too sweet, so I usually kill one of the apples.) Please post if you find one!

Hello–I’m planning to reboot–scared to death–I juice and smoothie now with a vitamix that I love–I use whey protein–should I not use this when I reboot?
I made spinach, kale, carrot with ginger and green apple. I like more veggies too.
2 questions. I don’t get much juice from kale so I have replaced it with collard greens. Is that acceptable? Also, how many 8 ounce glasses of juice should one drink a day?
@Jade – Absolutely, Collard Greens are great in juice. Another leafy green that juices well is Romaine, it produces a lot! As for how much to drink, we recommend between 4 and 6, 16oz. glasses a day. So aim to get at least 64 oz. of juice pus the same amount of water each day. Good Luck!

I recently purchased a book called “Forks Over Knives” good book and came with tons of recipes for breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner as well as dessert. Hope this helps
The wife of Dr. Colin Campbell and his daughter LeAnne Campbell Disla have written a new wonderful cookbook based on his research in The China Study which recommends a plant based whole foods diet. The title of the book is Whole Foods Cookbook and has wonderful recipes.

Hello Louise, My fav vegetarian coombooks are by Jeanne Lemlin “Vegetarian Pleasures” she wrote 3 different ones, the recipes are delicious.
There is a great book called “The Ten Talents Cookbook” and you can buy it direct from the website “www. tentalentscookbook.com.” The author, Rosalie Hurd, has been on a raw plant food diet for decades.
The veganomicon is great, and the moosewood cookbooks are my favorite if you’re still having dairy, good luck!
Can you do smoothies where it’s not just the juice from the veggies but the whole vegetable itself is pureed, or does it have to be just the juice and throw away the pulp ?
For a reboot/fast/cleanse it must be the juice only. The point of juicing is to give your body a break from digestion. The pulp/meat from fruits and veggies has fiber in it which causes digestion to start happening. Of course, when you’re NOT doing your juicing fast, you can do a smoothie, just make sure to NOT add ANY artificial sweeteners or sugar. Pineapple juice will help make it sweeter.

can you recommend a good juicer
I have a Breville Juice Fountain BJE410.. It has an 84mm wide feed chute.. I can recommend it. If you are going to buy a juicer, don’t buy a cheap one. I paid $AUS150.. All the best.
Between my husband and I we have 2 different Brevilles which I loved until today. Since we switched to juicing mainly leafy greens, we bought an Omega 8006 (it yields 3x the amount of juice from leafy greens compared to the Breville and I think the pulp from fruits is also much drier). It is not anywhere near as noisy and much easier to clean. The Breville is faster, but I was putting the pulp through 3 and 4 times to get it somewhat dry, making clean up ridiculous.
Prep time is a little longer with the Omega (veggies need to be chopped in to much smaller bits than the Breville). But, since the Omega doesn’t overheat and tends to pull the food down the feed chute, I just chop and feed as I go.
I don’t see the 60 day plan . Were do I find it?

Not sure if im in the right spot to ask this question. I started my fast 4 days ago and yesterday was really hard being that i was in the restroom most of the day. I keep drinking my juice and today as well but i feel very tired. When do i get the energy and feel better and not in the restroom so much.
Is it recommended to continue your pre-Reboot exercise routine during your entire Reboot? I take Jazzercise up to 6x a week and I don’t want to have any adverse reaction.

I am on Warfarin, the vegetables listed are all high in Vitamin K which is not recommended on Warfarin, is this reboot not good for warfarin users?

I wish you would have gotten an answer. I am also on Warfarin and have to be careful of the veges etc. with high vitamin K content. Almost everything they recommend has Kale in it and I’m not suppose to eat Kale at all. Sooooooo, I’m not sure I could even do this.
Beck and Cindy. An earlier post said someone else was using collard greens and/or Romaine lettuce. Maybe Warfarin would not interact with those.
Guys, go talk with your Dr and ask about switching to aspirin. Do some googling. The side effects are less damaging to your body and regular tests while using greens will help reduce aspirin dependency. But your Dr will need to be on board 150%……don’t forget your cleaning internally so maybe the need for this terrible terrible drug will not be needed….also the Dr might reduce warfarin intake while your doing the fast…imagine his face when the mg needed is less over all….good luck….
Cheryl and Carol…any green, leafy vegetable is going to be high in vitamin K. Vitamin K is a concern for those on anticoagulants (such as Beck, Cindy and myself) because it can alter your pro-time results. In other words, the coumadin / warfarin thins out your blood to acceptable levels. Vitamin K helps blood clot, which can countermand what the medication is doing for you.
I don’t know Beck and Cindy’s particular situations, but this isn’t something I’ll ever be “cured of” by eating healthy. I have a Leiden Factor V mutation which is genetic and causes blood clots.
Beck and Cindy…presumably you both get your pro-time tested? How often? I have had to do this for over a dozen years, now, so I test monthly and have my own machine at home to do so. As such, I’m able to keep an eye on my levels and am more aware of how it changes as a result of what I eat, and how much I eat. The machines can be expensive, so it may not be an option for everyone, but I’ll never regret getting mine. I don’t have to go to the office or the hospital to get tested anymore, and like I said it has brought me a better understanding of my relationship to what I’m eating.
If getting your own machine is not possible at this time, I might recommend delaying the start of your juice fast. It might be a good idea to start with just the eating portion. If you can be strict about just eating the fruits / vegetables for a month or so, then get tested and see how your numbers look. Unless you’ve got a long history of taking this medication and seeing how it can fluctuate, it would also be wise to bring your doctor on board. He / She might have you re-check weekly if you commence with the juice fast, and would then be able to change your dosage as needed. Hope that helps!

which plan is recommended for type 2 diabetes
My husband is a type 2 diabetic, and he did his juicing only diet for 30 days and was able to wean off his Metformin completely over that time. He was pretty much juicing anything, but avoided just pure fruit juices. He always mixed in some vegies with them, like carrot and celery. It defenitely worked to him. His blood suger is now around 6. Hope that helps.

The nutritional values are great but is there any way to have carbohydrates added? I am a Type I diabetic and need to know carb counts in order to pump insulin. I have to admit that I eat boxed foods because the carbs are so much easier to track that way. It would be helpful if one day, it could be included in the PDF files! Thanks

Kale is like cabbage crossed with spinach, you can get it in Australia, mostly at markets or fruit and veg shops, I hardly ever see it in mainstreem shops.
i’ve been buying kale at both Coles and Woolworths here in Western Australia. It’s usually near the Chinese greens

Getting myself ready for a reboot. Couple questions. Only Kale I can find is purple Kale. Is that as good as the green stuff. Because I have type 2 diabetes and because the thought of vegetable juice for breakfast is a bit daunting,was considering eating 2 small pieces of green fruit for breakfast and then juice for the rest of the day. Any thoughts. I heard Joe say in the movie that he juices fruit for breakfast but with my diabetes I thought that may be an issue. Thanks
I have a case of advanced (insulin dependent) type 2 diabetes and I’ve been on a low-fat, low-glycemic vegan diet that includes whole fruits as a part of the diet and it helped my blood sugar stabilize (A1C is at 6.1) and I’ve lost a lot of weight. I haven’t tried this yet, so I’m not sure – just watch your sugar and see what happens. Good luck!

in one of the juices you need sweet potatoes, is it uncook or you have to boil it a little bit?
You do not need to cook/boil etc sweet potatoes. They juice very nicely raw. I juice them quite often and they are very tasty.

What juicer is best for the money?
I have bene ising the Vitamix and I love it. It is pricey but it does the job very well. You can freeze fruits and the machine will break it down. It gives it more of a frozen chill taste. That machine is sold on QVC and thru its own Web-site if your interested.
I think it is supposed to be just juice. I used the vitamix first, then ran the chopped up vegetables thru the juicer, put the remains back in the vitamix,added water ,purrreed it,strianed it , heated up the strain remains and gave it to my dogs . HaHa.Not doing that again: too much mess to clean up

for people with diabetes…. check out pure coconut oil. You can get off insulin / diabetes is caused from using hydrogenated vegetable oils which coats the pancreas; disallowing the firing mechanism (insulin) to work.
Oh this makes me sad! I lost my best friend of 26 years to diabetes and she could have done this switch to coconut oil and the reboot and probably cured herself of this wretched disease!!! D@m*! The right info too late for her!

Hi Claire, If I understand the video right, in the morning we can do more fruits and then afternoon and evening, concentrate more vegetables adding a few fruits to sweeten it up. What we need to do is just find our own recipe from the list of fruits and vegetables given? I am going to have fun with this!! Oh, and remember my water. I am making my own water drink of mint, lemon, cucumber and ginger by letting it sit over night to adhere the flavors and then making sure I drink what I made so I can restart over…..For the 60 day juicing (with doctor checks in between) we would continue just at 15 day plan over and over? Thank you. PS I saw Dr. Thurman on the OZ show and was trying to get more information on him. I was estatic to see him on the video and showing his dot com address.
Hi Claire. I’m 51 and weigh a muscular 245 lbs. I started a jucing fast today to hopefully lose the last 20 lbs I have been unable to use. I’m concerned about having enough protein each day while I’m on the diet. I normally supplement my diet with 30g of whey protein twice a day. Should I continue to do that or do you have another suggestion?

Hi Claire, I suffer from Fructose malabsorption (as well as lactose) and am on day 2 of a 10 day juice fast. I have decided to follow the recipes and to also include fruits and vegetables which usually I would not as they are not advised for fructose malabsorption and usually cause some sort of reaction for me, namely tiredness and a spacy feeling in the head. My thinking is, that by having these fruits and veges in their natural state and incorporating the philosophy that the reboot literally reboots the body then it may help with the fructose malabsorption. Can you provide your thoughts on this please? Thanks
I have a question… I noticed that when I juiced there was a great deal of pulp left behind, so I researched and found out that when I “extract”, there is nothing left behind, all the pulp is pulverized into the juice for me to drink… I know that in veggies and fruits, almost all of the vitamins that you really need are in the skin…
SO, my question is…

I am wondering the same thing. I just put the veggies and fruit into a Cuisenart and turn them into a smoothie. What is the difference nutritionally? Are there a lot more calories because of the fiber being included? Please distinguish between “cleansing” nutrition and that from whole veggies and fruit including pulp.

I have like 10-15 lbs to lose in 12 days, so I am looking for a reboot plan for weight loss that I can do for at least 10 days. Suggest you download the movie – it answers all of your questions. The idea here is to “give your digestive system a break” – you absorb the pulp-free juice easily into your system for nutrition while cleaning your digestive track. Combining Juicing with Eating only adds calories to your consumption and may do the opposite in your weight-loss quest. Remember, this is a FASTING tool – not a plan for lifelong use.
I saw the recommendations for “A week before you start juicing” to these need to be followed if I am not a big meat/dairy consumer? Also is it necessary to see my doctor before beginning a 10-day juice if I do not have any health issues besides being overweight? I am unable to afford the juicer used on the program so I bought one that got good reviews online with the ability to return it if it does not work for me…please answer soon as I am set to begin on July 9, 2012
I am very excited to start this program. I have hypothyroidism and pcos. I take medication for both those conditions everyday and pain meds for back and joint pain. I look forward to the challenge. BRING ON THE JUICE!

I am on day 10 of juicing. I have incorporated a few fresh mangos to eat when famished and I boiled some sweet potatoes and mashed them last night, I was starving! My question is does that slowdown my reboot? Also, people keep mentioning about protein…is there anything I can incorporate to add some?

chlorella. It’s a super food and is 60% protein. Check out protein charts for vegetables and fruits. Asparagus, broccoli and cauliflower are high in protein.
I watched the movie on Netflix and was inspired to change my eating habits. Waiting for my juicer to come via Fedex. Bought lots of fruits and vegetables to get started.

I read on other blogs not very wise maybe use as a supplement in addition to a well balanced diet. My 15 yr old is going to start with me tomorrow. I am starting the 10 dayhoping for 30. She will drink 1 a day.
I have noticed that lettuce is not mentioned. Got a reason? I recall an old “herbal” remedy for sleeplessness being steamed lettuce leaves, to concentrate the properties of lettuce. I would think lettuce in juice form might be a nice addition to evening drinking. Why so much kale? My Breville does not fancy juicing it

Hello, i was wondering if you can drink too much and actually gain weight…I’m not talking fruits but mean green…I drank between 96-128oz of mean green juice (lots of collard greens and kale) today and my friend thinks i will gain weight due to the carbs, can this be true

I can’t eat celery, would it be alright if I substituted rhubarb instead of celery?
Keep in mind that rhubarb leaves are poisonous, and the raw stalks are extremely bitter. There’s ongoing research as to whether or not the raw stalks contain some toxins as well, but they do know that rhubarb can serve as a laxative. I suggest extreme caution if you choose to utilize rhubarb!
Started a 30 day juice fast on Sunday, cheated a little with some peanuts and whole cherry tomatoes. Down 8 lbs
I can’t tolerate the coconut water. As soon as it hits my tummy it comes right back up. I’ve tried holding my nose, no luck. I’ve tried making the water very cold. Nope. Help.

Well, we are ready to begin. I weigh 238 pounds at 5’7″. My husband, Kirk, weighs 260 at 5’7″. We found the best juicer to begin, bought lots of fruits and veggies, and we are psyched to begin tomorrow morning. Saw movie. Very inspiring! Although I exercise often, it really hit home that I don’t boost my immune system or my family with low veggie and fruit intake. So I have committed to being healthier by juicing breakfast for the family. I make my juice starting with grapes or apples and spinach. I add this part of my juice into my daughters smoothie which has banana, strawberries and yogurt. After she got over it being green, she loves it.

It’s a great program to follow before/after doing a juice-only Reboot. I am sold on the healing power of veggies and fruits! (Today is day 59 of my Reboot and I’ve lost 66-lbs.)
WOW!!! Congratulations!!! This is encouraging to see that real people off the big screen have real results. Keep up the fight for life. I’ll be joining the team on Monday. Excited, fearful, but hopeful. I need to lose sixty pounds. My friend has been on the plan since July and has lost almost seventy pounds. She rebooted for 24 days, now she drinks a fruit and veggie drink for breakfast and a veggie drink for lunch. She then eats a meal of whole vegetables, beans, salad….for dinner. She’s got me fired up too. Stay focused and I hope in sixty days I’ll have some good news to report.

I have been on the juice fast for eight days….in that time, my blood pressure has gone from 160/110 to 118/74……which is normal. I cant believe it. A side effect of the diet….I have lost 3kg….I have not made plans about how long I can last it out….so I am taken it one day at a time….

You can use either…just remember to have a 16oz of water with lemon and ginger or just plain water as soon as you wake up. I’m on day 18, and I feel great!! I don’t get tempted anymore when I see my husband eating a big juicy steak

Well I start juicing in the morn. my goal is to do the 60 days, but I am going to take it one day at a time and try not to think of it in the 60 days term as that seems like…, Forever! I need to lose 120 pounds and I need to learn to eat right. My plan is to do as they did in the movie and only juice. The only thing I am kind of confused on is can I juice fruits or is it just greens in order to get the same kinds of weight lose as they did.
Hi Denise, I started this morning as well (July 30, 2012), I plan to do the 60 days as well because I need to lose 120 lbs as well. I plan to juice mostly greens but use fruit to provide the sweetness. My daughter and I created a drink last night that was really tasty.
1 large zucchini, 2 handfuls of spinach, 2 apples (1 green 1 fuji red) 1 lemon. Although, next time I will use only 1 apple.

I purchased a juicer and have been enjoying all kinds of juice for the last three weeks. Recently, I watched an infomercial for a Nutribullet. They claim their “smoothies” are better and just plain juice because you actually consume the pulp as well as the juice. Is there a huge difference in the nutritional value? Thanks. CB

So glad I took the time to watch this movie. 300lbs, 56 years old and single again after 12 years of marriage in which I was the cook. . Bought the Breville Variable speed BJE510 and it’s awesome. I’m not fond of all the juices but I’m learning. I know it’s a conditioning thing and my tastes will change in time. I’m just getting started but I’m commited. I have had the Roux en Y Gastric Bypass. My Iron absorption is suffering and I have several health problems. I have RA & FM along with arthritis and osteoprosis. I would like to know if Juicing would help me. My daughter and her family are and she is finding increased energy and is feeling great. She is trying to incourage me to do the same. I am not a doctor or anything close to it, but I do have RA, Schrogren’s Syndrome both autoimune diseases and high blood pressure. After just 2 weks of juicing, I went to my rhuematologist for my regular check up an told him that I was juicing and that my goal was to get off of all meds and fight the inflammation with foods instead of the drugs. He ran a new ANA (blood test) and they were negative, which means that my body has responded very well to the natural foods and juicing. I did the 15 day classic reboot and followed it to a T for the first 10 days. I continued the juice fast and am just eating after church on Sunday’s with my family. Staying with my natural foods. It has been one of the best things I have ever done for myself and for my future with my family. I haven’t felt this good inside and out in a very long time. I hope you are able to get some relief as well if you decide to do this. I am recommending it to everyone I know.
i watched the movie, was impressed and want to try it. got my juicer and some apples, carrots, cucumber, spinach and oranges to start with . Hi, my husband and I are struggling to complete our goal of a 60day reboot, we are currently on day 11!! Our issue is that the ”Green” juices are very hard to swallow and my husband has even thrown them up because of the taste. Do you have any suggestions….. We greatly appreciate any and all help you can give us because honestly we’re on the verge of quitting when we really don’t want to.
Try using carrots. I have found them to be a great sweetener.

After my daughter and I watched Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead we made the decision to start a juice fast. We chose Labor Day weekend because I’ll have 3 days off to get past the “crankies”! We purchased our Breville juicer yesterday and are really excited to begin in 2 days!!! So, today I ate, possibly, my last piece of pepperoni ever for lunch..hahahaha!!! My life is going to change for the better..I just know it because, since being inspired by Joe and the others in the film I’ve already started on a walking routine and (other then the pepperoni) have begun eating much healthier. I almost did the reboot for 3 days. I love juicing, but eat salads and soups too. I run into trouble because most of the produce I do get is very ripe already, so it’s hard to keep for a few days. Like today I had to juice two oranges before the end of the day. It’s still all good I imagine. It’s amazing how sweet some regular foods taste after just 2 1/2 days of juicing! In fact, some foods make me sick now (like a small piece of fruitcake I ate to be sociable at a gathering) Two questions: I want to bake using the pulp – what are some must ingredients when baking – other egg subs if I don’t have flax oil? I bought vegitarian butter – does that work? Canola oil? And – can anything really be juiced together as I make my own concoctions? How do you avoid too many sugars, or make sure you are creating the right balance? Thanks!!

I was introduced last night to this roboot program. Not sure but I am 44, second year of manepause and I stopped smoking Jan 1st of this year. With all that I have managed to get up to 198 lbs. I wasn’t even this weight at nine months pregnaunt!! I’m searching for help now. weight watchers was my choice until last night.
I am on day 2 of the reboot. Shooting for 30 days. My boyfriend and I are doing this together and today we are both really tired, I have had a bad headache and we are both really nauseated after drinking the juice. We change our juices daily. I have cheated a little eating unsalted nuts, seeds and an occasional banana. I am just having a hard time giving up EATING! I know once I get past this first few days it will get easier, but I have a small child and making meals for him is SOOOOO hard!!! :/

I am wondering if there is anything I can do to improve my thyroid function besides taking 25mcg daily of Liothyronine and 175mcg daily of Synthroid, I was diagnosed about 15 years ago with Hypothyroidism. I feel tired every day, I just started juicing (breakfast and lunch) then have mostly vegetables for dinner along with a little organic chicken. I see so many adds more this pill and that pill(non approved by the FDA) I just wonder if there is something else I should be doing

I have a vitamix blender. Do I just blend it all, or do i need a juicer that extracs the juice from the fiber? So it seems that we have to have 64 oz a day at least plus 64 oz of water. 64 oz of juice and 64 oz of blended veggies is quite different. Also, if blended bveggies you have to add water so 64 oz of juice plus 64 oz of water is quite a lot! Didnt seem like he was drink that much in the film and also looked as though he was just drinking the juice not the fiber too. Lastly, does freezing the veggies have an effect on the nutrious benefit? I put the spinac, pears, and bananas in the freezer so they dont spoil and also the cold gives them a better flavor when blended.
I was on a diet before where we had some foods or any meal we wanted on sundays, as long as we did good during the week. Would there be anything wrong with that, as long as we were following a mostly strict juicing/lean food diet during the week?

For someone who works in an office all day but wants to try this reboot, it will be difficult to make fresh juice throughout the day to suit my needs. I know juice loses it’s potency over time, but is it acceptable to juice in bulk in the morning and drink throughout the day or does this defeat the purpose? Any advice is helpful. I struggle in the office environment avoiding the barrage of sweets and treats that are constantly present.
Hi, Ive been researching nutrition for a long time now and found a meat, grain & dairy free eating plan works best. Therefore a raw diet such as juicing allows you to get the best nutrients that your body requires. However I am a little confused with some of the food combinations that can play havoc on your digestive system in some of the recipes reccommended. Are you able to shed some light on this. Thanks!
