Meatless Monday: Good Morning Juice

Everyone drinks OJ for breakfast, but why not bulk up the nutrients with this “Good Morning” Juice?! Yes, there’s oranges. But there’s also carrots and sweet potatoes. It will get you energized and ready to face the day!
It’s light. It’s refreshing. And it’s packed with nutrients. Oh, and it’s beautiful!

And do you know what I’m most excited about with this juice recipe? For the first time ever, I actually saved and used the pulp to make another recipe…for these healthy Carrot Cake Muffins.

Where’s the recipe for the drink?
2 sweet potatoes
6 carrots
4 oranges
I don’t have juicer at home but I do have a blender… Is it better to juice your veggies then to blend them?
im no pro but i think jucing is getting all the yummy goodness n leaving the pulp out where blending is jus mixing ingredients together
hope that helps
mmmm sounds interesting i must try and how were the muffins?
have never tried juicing sweet potatoes ..will it work in a cheap little juicer?
Also LOVE that you can use pulp for other recipes. It feels wasteful to throw out.. Not one ounce of goodness lost:)
It states cook time is 5 minutes? The sweet potatoes? Carrots?
You juice everything raw.
Juiced it – LOVE it! Yummo it’s been added to my recipe book ..
I wonder about the raw sweet potato, because I know that raw ‘normal’ potato can poison your body. Isn’t that also with sweet potato?
And all the juices are always served over ice.. But too cold isn’t good for your liver, it’s literally freezing, so it can’t do his very important job. Best is serving it just as it is. Isn’t it?
Meike, i dont think u will get poisoned from juicing this raw sweet potato because i juice them all the time. Now what u will get is gas like cray cray. I mix mine with peaches & apples & a little cinnamon to make a peach pie juice. Its so yummy. I never drink my juices cold because after letting it sit for a while it starts to lose its nutrients. Hope this helps with ur questions.
Juicing sweet potatoes gives a gritty substance to the drink? Do you agree? Am I doing it right?
Lots of fruit and veggies are better juiced with the skin / rind /pith left on, juicing extracts all the goodness from this part of the produce while removing all of the skin / rind/ pith etc… which would be difficult to blend into a liquid
Hi, Brady! If you’re getting grit in your juice you may wish to scrub the sweet potatoes & carrots with a stiff vegetable brush. That should help
Some people have responded to you by saying to scrub the sweet potatoes but I did that, VIGOROUSLY, and it was still gritty. It reminded me of drinking Metamucil — the grit gets caught in your throat and it feels like you’re choking. I had to chase each drink I took with a sip of water. Ugh!
YUM! My husband and I had this for breakfast this morning and it was wonderful! I altered it slightly and used two oranges and two tangerines because we both love the “twang” of tangerines. This one will be a regular at our house.
Isn’t it wrong to mix fruit and veggie juice? I read that you shouldn’t mix them because it will mess with your digestive system. Supposedly different enzymes in your stomach are used to break down the starch in a carrot versus the orange. Is this true?
Gotta laugh, I can just picture our caveman ancestors looking at the fruit & veg they’ve collected whilst foraging for food going “Hmmm, do i eat the fruit or do i eat the veg, cos if i eat them together they’re going to give me a stomach ache, what to do?”!!!
Just made this as a dessert (for my kiddos and I) and it’s a huge hit!! I’ve not planned on juice fasting until next week, but I’ve been having so much fun trying all these juice recipe’s I just realized that I haven’t eaten anything all day…and I’m not really hungry!! It took my kids telling me that they were starting to get hungry for me to start making dinner! Ooops!
Sooooo this is Day one of my 15 day Juice fast. This is the First juice I have ever made with a Juicer….. This stuff is crazy good. Looks like mornings are going to get a new JOLT. I am a Professional Barista , and I am going to attempt NO COFFEE…. Pray for me. lol
I’m going on no soda (I was drinking 3-4 cans a DAY) since Jan 1st and am going to be starting a juicing fast soon as well (gotta have money for groceries!)… You can do this. It’s all mind over matter. Praying for you definitely!! Good luck!
If you need someone to vent to or need some encouragement… Let me know!
I get off caffeine by cutting my coffee with decaf. I do it by mixing
my beans starting 1/2 reg & 1/2 decaf for a few days and still
consuming same amount of coffe as usual. Then gradually
adding more decaf beans till it’s all decaf for a few days.
Then you can quit coffee altogether with no headaches.
This recipe is DELICIOUS! Mine came out a little earthy tasting but it’s not over-powering. I might add one more orange… but it’s so good and I’m excited to have some extra to take to work for lunch time!
Very, very tasty and sweet!
Thanks for posting this!
Can anyone please explain what do they mean with “COOK TIME”? What do you cook? The sweet potato? Please help!
This was delicious but I have a question about the yield. It’s says yield is 2-3, and serving size 32oz (1L). Does that mean this recipe makes 2-3L of juice? Mine made just under 1L ~ about 30oz so am I doing it wrong?
No I take this to mean; the recipe makes approximately 1L of juice which is 2-3 servings, so 10-15oz per serving
Thx Jenn – that makes more sense. Making this again now…maybe it’ll make me smarter! Sure is delicious
Hi, I love this juice. I don’t really care for orange juice so I used one grape-fruit instead and loved it. I cut the recipe in half and the amount of juice was perfect for one person
Is there any calorie count info for this particular juice?
I calculated raw food calories from my fitness pal and its about 554 calories for all ingredients.
Thank you Daisy!
I made it on my magic bullet with the juicing attachment and it was delicious, no grit and I did pour over ice, but not much so it was cool not super cold. Although I will be investing in a juicer the magic bullet was a lot of work.
My wife and I decided to do your recipe as our first juice…mainly because we love the ingredients. We cut it down to 3/4 of the ingredients and were blown away!!! Thanks…yes you were our first and we will always remember you! LOL
question: sweet potatoes do they need to be cooked or raw?
Everything raw.
im so confused , what size should the sweet potatoe be and how long can i store the juice for??
We use a sweet potato that’s like a foot long (just one instead of two). It’s really about your taste, too. I always make the recipe, then taste it and see if I think it needs anything more. It’s best to drink all fresh juices within 24 hours, kept cold with as little air as possible. I use glass jars and fill them to the top for this.
[...] before you give it a spin. In order to populate my shopping list, I decided upon my recipes: Good Morning juice, Mean Green juice, and Gazpacho juice. So, here’s the [...]
This is an amazing recipe. The sweet potatoes thicken the juice giving it an almost milkshake texture. I added about 25 small mint leaves as well. Divine!
Love the mint idea, must try it!
I just love this one, it is really good, and I always have plenty of sweet potatoes, I use a med.-sm sweet potatoe, and 3 carrots 2 oranges, and it is perfect for one person. I put it into a qt jar and put enough ice in it to make it full…I have been juicing twice a day for 13 days and I have lost 7lbs. I am going shopping on day 15 and I will be getting more stuff to juice with and then work on 4-5 a day and juice fasting for 5-10 days. I have to see how it will go for me, then I will try to do this about 1-2 times a month. And keep it at 2 a day on a reg basis…:)
Really nice! I don’t like cooked sweet potato at all but was pleasantly surprised by this juice. Very drinkable.
If we’re supposed to juice everything raw why does it say cook time 5 minutes? – referring to juicing time?? New to this, thanks!
Got a feeling this will be my favourite juice recipe! http://t.co/7c65RPwvRf
How do we figure out the calorie count?
This is so good!!! After juicing the ingredients I poured the juice into my blender and added banana and ice. YUM!!!
Interesting and nutrient-packed take on plain orange juice. Enjoy!
OK – This is a dumb question BUT as there is confusion in the grocery store as to the color of a sweet potato vs a yam – is this recipe using the yellow one or the orange one?? To me, a sweet potato is orange and a yam is yellow!! :/
I think they’re pretty much the same. Where I come from, they’re all called kumara and are described by colour (red, gold, orange, and my personal favourite blue). It’s a bit like the wonderful variety of shapes and colours of winter squash which have pretty much the same nutritional profile and all tend to end up being called pumpkin.
Good Morning Juice http://t.co/zZiv6XC5pz Sooooo #Bomb!! thanks for posting @nsSweetlife will definitely be making this again #RealJuice
Delicious!
This was — no joke — the VERY first juice I made in my juicer. The rest were kinda scaring me. THIS WAS SO YUMMY. It was easy to make, and totally cured my fear of juicing.
Onward and upward. Thank you for this recipe, it gave me a great start!
ok Im new at this! havent made a juice yet..im looking around at reciepes so that i know what to get at the grocery store. my question is..if the juice loses its nutritional value after sitting a bit…do you drink it all at once? or do you chill and save for next meal or snack?

LOVE this juice – definitely one of my favorites so far. And I love the fact that it yields so much juice. It actually yielded 35+ ounces for me!
Love this one! FYI – I replaced one sweet potato with a yellow or orange bell pepper and it got rid of the gritty taste and gas that came w/ having two potatoes. Tasted great!
Here’s what you have to do: add half a teaspoon of high quality vanilla extract. It is FREAKIN delicious! I would drink this for desert any day. I mean, even when I’m not juice cleansing.
I don’t get any grittiness from it, just starchiness, which to me makes it almost creamy. I think it’s like an orange creamsicle.
This was awesome!! I absolutely loved the sweetness and it is such a beautiful color!! The one and only thing I didn’t like was the starchy pulp from the sweet potatoes. Any tips for straining the pulp/starch left after juicing? Thanks for this recipe! (C:
yum, a good one!
[...] Why Juicing Made My Wife Cry No, it wasn’t the fact that two juices into a 10 day 100% juice-only run she couldn’t take it. Nor was it in sympathy as I persevered and chugged yet another Mean Green Juice over the sink – just in case… Although I’m pleased to report that there are more palatable juices too! [...]
