How did you learn about Reboot with Joe?
I heard about FSND from my uncle who had viewed it on Netflix and thought it would be inspiring for me to watch. On September 25, 2012 I dedicated to start a 60 day Reboot. Mid November, halfway through my fast, I wanted to support Joe Cross and buy the actual DVD. On the DVD there was the ”Reboot your Life” website, and I have been visiting ever since. I’ve also been following on Joe Cross on Facebook and Twitter to keep constant motivation.
What inspired you to do a Reboot?
It is a long story as to what inspired me to do a Reboot! My mother, who I’m very close to, had medical issues with her digestive system. She was encouraged to have a colonoscopy by her treating physician. When the results were given she had Hemorrhoids that was preventing her from having a clean digestive track. A few months later she was admitted to the hospital twice – 10 days at a time because her appendix was inflamed and had burst inside of her, leaving her with deadly toxins floating within her body. It was a scary experience to say the least, but through the power of prayer and minor surgery the toxins were able to get flushed out of her body. This same thing happened twice, once in July 2012 and the other October 2012, and the doctor informed her that is was strictly because of her poor diet. So seeing my mother go through treatment from doctor to doctor and having to depend on meds while in and out of the hospital, was a big wake up call for myself.
Unfortunately, I knew it was only a matter of time before I was heading down the wrong path. So I took heed and starting healthy eating in June 2012. At my heaviest I was 345 lbs./156 kg. From June to September 2012, I would juice fast here and there but was not really committed on sticking with a fast. I would do three days here and there, then binge eat. But September 25th, after MANY failures, I was committed to change my life and lose the weight. My weight then was 307 lbs./139 kg. I set out to do a 60 Day Reboot like Joe, and when I reached day 45, I was inspired to challenge myself even more and exceed 60 days and complete a 70 day Reboot. On December 4, 2012, I started eating fruits and veggies again, and LOVED them. It was like I had a craving for them and it was such a blessing. My end weight after the fast was 245 lbs./113 kg. As of today I am 230 lbs./104 kg., a total of 115 lbs./52 kg. lost and feeling great. Even though it is not my goal weight, I am ecstatic as to where I have come from.
How did the experience go for you?
The experience was great, I gained enormous amounts of energy and my confidence shot up to 100%. And it was just great to see the domino effect it had on family, friends, colleagues and even co-workers. When they saw a significant change with me, it immediately sparked an interest with people close to me, and inspired those to get healthy and lose weight. People who were even considered ”health conscious” were asking for tips and what I did to transform my life. There were some hard parts to the Reboot, but you just have to stay strong and be able to push through. It’s all worth it at the end!
How much weight did you lose (even if that wasn’t your goal!)?
Overall, I have lost a total of 115 lbs./52 kg. At my heaviest I was 345 lbs./156 kg. From juicing and eating somewhat healthy foods during the week and a little exercise, I had dropped down to 307 lbs./140 kg. which is where I was at the start of my fast.
During the 70 Day Reboot, I lost a total of 62 lbs./28 kg. Ten months later of working out, juicing every day and eating mostly micronutrient foods, I am down to 230 lbs./104 kg.
Did you have any notable health or physical improvements?
Yes there were significant noticeable health improvements. At night, every time I went to sleep, I would take deep breaths and my lower part of my back was in excruciating pain. I could tell it was from all the junk I was eating, but I was an addict, I did not care. My digestive system was out of whack, it was really hard to use the bathroom, and I was suffering from high blood pressure/cholesterol, and I was pre-diabetic. I would have a tingling sensation in my feet and arms if I sat or stood for a long period of time. I could barely make it up the stairs without stopping for a little. And it even got to the point where I had a hard time being comfortable while driving in the car and would have back and neck problems. Now, after being healthy and staying active and juicing every day, there are no back problems, pre-diabetic diagnosis has reversed, digestive system is excellent and I can fit comfortably in my car. I had a physical and my blood pressure was so great that the doctor said I have the blood pressure of an athlete. The Reboot has definitely improved my health 100%.
What was the toughest part about the Reboot experience?
The toughest part by far was the first 7 to 15 days. I had every craving in the book, and everyone I knew wanted to go hang out and eat. Then October 16th, my birthday, where I usually go all out and stuff my face, I had my precious Mean Green Juice. Then another hurdle I had to get over was my best friend’s wedding. BUT the one that takes the cake was Rebooting through Thanksgiving, yes THANKSGIVING! That was by far the toughest part, from people taunting you with food, saying ”you know want this” and waving food in my face, man oh man, was it tough. But I had a goal and I was determined to stick with it. Lastly, the clean up after the juicing was kind of a pain, but I appreciated it.
What habits have you maintained and kept a part of your everyday life?
The habit I keep up and commit to with my everyday life is definitely juicing. I take 2 days out of the week, faithfully, to juice and make 12 to 16 ball mason sealed jars and store them for about 2 to 3 days so I can always have a juice everyday on the go. Meats are to a minimum, but I still have my struggles every now and again, especially with chicken. But black beans have definitely become a strong part of my diet. Dr. Joel Fuhrman says that you can eat all the beans you want and never gain weight. But it’s apart of my everyday life; loading up on micronutrient foods.
What is your lasting impression of the Reboot experience?
My lasting impression of the Reboot is, what do you have to lose, but the weight (corny I know)? If you want to feel better about yourself, look better and improve your health 10 fold, then having a Reboot at least once every three months is the way to go. My mother’s health has significantly improved, my health as well, and just overall there is a more positive outlook on life. If you make excuses of cost, just know in the future, medical costs are going to be even more. Keep your head in the nutrition research and Juice On!
