Why Bottled Juices Don’t Contribute To Your Daily Fruit And Veg Intake

Preparing fresh juices is a bit of a mission, I will admit. You have to make sure your fridge is stocked with the right fruits and vegetables, you have to set up the juicer, you have to put the ingredients through the juicer, and then you have to clean the juicer – all this work for one glass of fresh juice. It’s no wonder many people opt for the much simpler route of drinking juice fresh from a bottle. If you’re one of these people, you’re probably going to hate me for saying this but …drinking bottled juice does not compare even one drop to drinking freshly made juices.
I have to bite my tongue whenever people tell me that they are too busy to make juices themselves – and then they proudly hold up the bottle of V8 veggie juice they drink as, what they believe is, an adequate substitute. This is nowhere near the same thing. Not even close.
Dr Joseph Mercola agrees with me:
“I believe that fruit juice and pasteurized milk are two of the most misunderstood foods in our culture,” Dr Mercola writes on his website. “Most people believe they are health foods, while the polar opposite is true. They tend to be pernicious fluids that worsen most people’s health.”
Bottled Juice vs. Fresh Juice:
They may be derived from the same original source, but a lot happens to bottled juice after it is squeezed out of its fruit or vegetable and before it is poured out of the bottle and into your glass. Bottled juice has been heated and pasteurized so pretty much all of its natural enzymes, vitamins and minerals are completely depleted. It has also had preservatives, colors and artificial and refined sugars added to it – rendering it even worse for your health.
“Nearly every canned or bottled commercial juice, on the other hand, are actually worse than soda, because a glass of juice is loaded with fructose, and a lot of the antioxidants are lost,” writes Dr Mercola.
On the other hand, juice that comes straight out of your juicer is packed with live enzymes, vitamins and minerals. Carrot juices are full of the nutrient of the moment – betacarotene (which converts into vitamin A in the body), and green juices give us amazing doses of chlorophyll. Freshly made juices are alkalizing and they provide our bodies with intense hydration and oxygenated cells and bloodstream. To get the most benefits out of drinking fresh juice, it’s best to drink them straight from the juicer. If this isn’t possible, store them in a dark, airtight bottle or container (we use flasks or Mason jars) and open when you’re ready to drink. Remember that light, air and heat destroy most, if not all, of the available nutrients.
The Vitamin Water deception:
This is quite possibly one of the most misleading marketing campaigns ever. Not only does Vitamin Water not provide your body with needed vitamins, but it is actually just as bad as drinking a soft drink. Vitamin Water is mostly just “sugar water”, with added synthetic chemicals and no actual fruit. Vitamin Water is basically just “non-carbonated soda” and it has been said to contribute to weight gain, diabetes, obesity and other diseases.

What about the Naked fruit juices?
Naked juices are pasteurized just like any other bottled juice.
truth.

Although I agree bottled juice is not as healthy as freshly made, I wouldn’t quote Dr. Mercola on anything. http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Joseph_Mercola
Larry, you are completely retarded.
Is it Ok to make juice in bulk the night before and have it the next day?
I got the answer in the article, however I am wondering if we can make the juice and keep it in the fridge? Does that kill all the live enzymes and the available nutrients?
Hi rubal – great question! Here is more information about bringing your fresh juice with you on the go http://www.jointhereboot.com/june-group-reboot-day-2-juicing-on-the-go/
I think the point that is MISSED here is that a bottled juice can be used in an EMERGENCY. That might look like.. I’ve packed my home juiced “lunch” and snack.. and for unforeseen reasons you are now out PAST DINNER. You’re on a “juice fast” and you don’t want to break it so you grab a bottle of Naked Juice or Jamba Juice or heaven forbid an actual V8 drink. It keeps you from EATING.. so that you can continue on your fast. I would agree with Jessica TOTALLY regarding drinking Naked juice or ANY OTHER BOTTLED juice as a replacement for juicing at home.
I do not believe this includes going down to your “local juice bar” and getting a freshly juiced drink. I believe this is fine.. but probably VERY expensive!
Lastly, banning all bottled juices is a SLIPPERY SLOPE on this website, considering JOE CROSS has developed a bottled juice and is marketing it currently in Australia.
That’s my 2 cents, I’m a juicer for life! And by the way it’s a LIFE Joe Cross saved!! Thanks Joe.. we love ya!
i work outside with no refridgeator I was wondering how do you pack your juice lunch?

I bought a bottle of Naked Juice’s “Green Machine” two weeks ago, assuming it as a fairly suitable and healthy drink for a newbie juicer. Being used to more traditional Mean Green-type juice blends, Green Machine was almost undrinkably sweet. I could not drink a whole glass. My guess is that its flavor profile is geared to those who prefer the illusion of consuming healthy food to the real thing–raw and natural.
So tropicana has juices that say 100% pure pressed juice. The ingredients have nothing other than the fruits used in the juice. The carton also says that they are fresh squeezed and packaged within 24 hours. Would this be included as one of the “pasteurized” juices not suitable for providing nutrients?
Please dont quote Mercola. By doing this you link yourself to a con artist cited multiple times for giving false information. It makes your arguments less credible.
Could someone answer a question for me…. How do you consume omega 3/6 without eating fish… I am vegetarian now and will be vegan soon… Just need some advice… Thanks…
Hi Jessica,
Here in Australia, we have RebootYourLife bottled juices, which seem to be endorsed? Same logo, part of Reboot Holdings etc…..are they misleading us or are they an exception? Not sure how to post a link, but it’s at http://www.rebootyourlife.com.au
Thanks!
im in AUS and was wondering the same, if I cant make the juices or take them, but buy the Joes Reboot bottled juices, are these ok or not? I assume they are based on the same theory and ingredients as the juice at home recipes and I saw Joe on the TV this morning promoting the drinks in a supermarket – so whats the go with these bottled drinks?
Well that blows my theory… I was hoping to substitute bottled juice. I live in a mining camp a 7 hour drive from the nearest fresh fruits and vegetables and no access to a kitchen… any hints on what to do?
