Juicing, Health and Weight Loss: How and Why

You’ve seen “Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead” with Joe Cross. (And if you haven’t, watch it here for free.) Now you’re ready to do what Joe did! Here are all the tools you need below, and through the links to the left.

Why Juice?

Making fresh juice a part of a well-balanced, plant-based diet is an important tool for achieving good health. When included as part of a Reboot—a period of drinking vegetable and fruit juices—juicing can lead to significant weight loss. Juicing offers:

  • A faster, more efficient way to absorb nutrients
  • A way to access digestive enzymes typically locked away in the fiber matrix of whole fruits and vegetables
  • A fun and delicious way to increase consumption of plant foods
  • A nutritionally sound way to decrease daily calorie intake

What’s a Reboot?

A Reboot is a period of time where you commit to drinking and eating only fruits and vegetables, herbal teas and water in order to regain or sustain your vitality, lose weight and kick-start healthy habits that recharge your body and get your diet back in alignment.

Eating? Joe only drank juice—he didn’t eat.

Yes, Joe drank juice for 60 days but then he followed those 60 days with three months of eating and drinking fruits and vegetables. You do not need to juice-only for 60 days or even only juice to benefit from a Reboot.

Is a Reboot for everyone?

Rebooting is for almost everyone with a few exceptions. Please don’t attempt a Reboot if you are pregnant or nursing, under 18, or are under a doctor’s care for a severe medical condition. Check with your doctor if you are unsure. If you are currently on medication, ask your doctor before starting this or any diet program.

You can also ask questions on our Facebook page or on Twitter.

  1. Get Support

An extended Reboot can be hard but you don’t need to do it alone. We have a great community of fellow Rebooters who will support you on your Reboot. They know what it’s like and share knowledge and support. Readers also share challenges and success stories on our terrific Facebook page.

For professional support, sign up for a Guided Reboot, a Reboot diet program undertaken with the supervision of one of our nutritionist-coaches and the support of a small circle of fellow Rebooters.

  1. Get a Juicer

With the wide variety of juicers on the market today, it can be challenging to decide which one is best for you. We’ve created a Juicer Buying Guide to make finding the best juicer for your needs simple.

But you don’t have to buy a juicer. Chances are, you’ve got a friend who has one sitting in a closet. Just ask around.

  1. Juice Like a Pro

Are you new to juicing? Download our free “Rebooting 101” e-magazine. Not sure if you should peel the lemon, throw in the whole apple? Find out how to prepare your fruits and vegetables for juicing in our A – Z Produce Prep Guide.

  1. Get Inspired

Perfect for before, during and after your Reboot, the Reboot with Joe Plant-Based Recipes Book features over 70 of Joe’s favorite Reboot-friendly recipes he relies on to stay well, strong and happy. Keep it in your kitchen for quick and easy access to the healthiest juices, smoothies, salads, soups, snacks, veggie dishes and more. (You can also find tons of great recipes on our site.)

  1. Get Moving

Just because you are on a Reboot doesn’t mean that you have to stop your regular exercise routine. Nor does it mean that you have to start one either. However, we strongly believe that fitness is an important component of a healthy, happy, and vibrant life, and key to helping you maintain your weight loss. So fill up on those fruits and veggies, get off the couch, get your heart rate up (it only takes 20 minutes) and get moving! Check out our fitness plans.

Congratulations. You’ve done it! The plant-powered energy you’ve been consuming during your Reboot has given you the mental and physical awareness to leave the junk foods behind and live a healthy, vibrant life.
