Spiced Apple and Carrot Juice

Everyone loves the combination of apples and carrots. They complement each other so well whether you’re juicing them, roasting them, or enjoying them in a salad. Adding spices to this delicious combination reminds me of carrot cake, but a much healthier version.

Cinnamon is known to help regulate blood sugars, cravings and appetite, and it may reduce cholesterol levels, along with some antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits. While nutmeg has its own range of health benefits; It has antibacterial and antidepressant properties, and possibly helps protect against colon cancer. Turmeric and ginger also offer a range of health benefits. This juice has a particularly warming quality, with its fall- and winter-inspired spices.

Ingredients

  • 3 large carrots
  • 2 apples
  • 2 celery sticks
  • 1 (1/2 inch) knob fresh ginger
  • ¼ inch fresh turmeric (optional)
  • 1 pinch cinnamon
  • 1 tiny pinch nutmeg

Directions

  1. Wash and scrub the produce.
  2. Juice the carrots, apples, celery, ginger and turmeric.
  3. Stir in the cinnamon and nutmeg.

Substitutions

Carrot – sweet potato, butternut squash, golden beets

Apple – pear, pineapple

Celery – celeriac root, zucchini, Swiss chard (silverbeet)

Ginger – dried cayenne, dried ginger, dried turmeric

Cinnamon – dried cardamom

Nutmeg – cloves
