Smart Sweet: Dark Chocolate Peppermint Patties

Worried about holiday weight gain? No need to skip the dessert table! Instead, indulge sensibly this holiday season with healthier versions of your favorite sweets.
If you are going to a party, having your own soiree, or just craving something sweet, these Dark Chocolate Peppermint Patties are the perfect treat to enjoy so you aren’t tempted to reach for the sugar laden cookies that are likely to fill up most of the dessert table.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup coconut oil
1/4 cup agave nectar (or pure maple syrup)
1/2 teaspoon peppermint oil
1/2 to 1 cup dark chocolate chips, at least 73% cacao
Directions:
1.) In a small bowl, combine coconut oil, agave nectar and peppermint oil.
2.) Freeze mixture for about 10 minutes, until the mixture begins to harden. Use a small ice cream scoop or tablespoon to measure out balls on a parchment lined plate. Place in freezer until balls begin to firm up (another 5-10 minutes).
3.) Meanwhile, melt chocolate chips using a double boiler (I assembled a heatproof bowl over a pot of boiling water). Remove from heat.
4.) Remove firm mint balls from freezer and flatten into patties using spoon. Quickly dip mint patties into melted chocolate using spoon. Cover patties completely with chocolate and place on parchment lined plate.
5.) Leave out for about 10 minutes until patties harden. Store in the freezer.

What kind of peppermint oil? Where do you get it? Would Whole Foods have it? These look amazing! I have to try them.
Thanks @Christine! I used Now Peppermint Oil. I found it in the supplements aisle of my natural foods store. You can also buy on Amazon. Here is a link: http://amzn.to/Xn9mGJ

Definitely making these, love peppermint patties! http://www.jointhereboot.com/smart-sweet-dark-chocolate-peppermint-patties/
A healthier version of Peppermint Patties. You could make your own chocolate coating and you could use coconut… http://t.co/PFuzOnTG
These look great – definitely going to have a go at making them … but with raw chocolate ingredients. I get mine (here in the UK) from http://www.elementsforlife.co.uk/recipes.
I am not sure how many “balls” this recipe makes – is it around 176 calories per treat (if the recipe makes 10)? What is a rough nutrient breakdown in carbs, fat and protein?
Could stevia be used in place of agave?
Yes!!! I also use powdered xylitol to make the right sweetness and then its a no sugar treat! (Must be powdered as it does not melt well, but is great for baking !
I need to get started right away. I have 100 lbs to lose, never thin in my life. Developed diabetes (they tell me) I refuse to believe it. I need help. Can you please tell me how to start?

Dark Chocolate Peppermint Patties from Reboot Your Life! YUM! Anybody ever make these or anything similar? xo <3 http://t.co/nPFJhhkr
why on earth do u use cups as measurements? Would love to make these but trying to find a conversion chart to oz or gm is not as easy as one wud think, as they vary from site to site, ingredient to ingredient
I made these for a family gathering. Everyone loved them! They are very special – great recipe! Thank you for sharing : ]
This looks and sounds amazing! I can almost taste them.
Could I use peppermint flavored liquid stevia instead of peppermint oil and agave? If so how many drops would you recommend?
These are AMAZING!
These did not work out for me tonight. When I tried flattening them with a spoon, they just crumbled and fell apart. So I have chocolate covered peppermint balls
Still delicious though!
