Sandra M. Shares How a Reboot Saved Her Life

Name: Sandra M.
Age: 54
Location: Crescent City, CA
Reboot: 45 days
Health Improvements: No more stomach aches and no more acid reflux. I lost 33 lbs. in the first 45 days and my taste buds changed so drastically that I became a vegetarian and have now lost 92 lbs.
What inspired you to do a Reboot?
Every time I ate anything I would get a stomach ache and the pain was starting to get unbearable. I was at my wit’s end when I happened to watch Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead on Netflix. I thought I would have nothing to lose except some weight if I was lucky.
How did the experience go for you?
It changed my whole life in ways that I never imagined. I was shooting for a 60 day fast however after 45 days I really felt the need to start eating again. I have gone on several week long fasts since the original one. No more stomach aches and no more acid reflux. I lost 33 lbs in the first 45 days and my taste buds changed so drastically that I became a vegetarian and have now lost 92 lbs.
Did you have any notable health or physical improvements?
I can eat now without my stomach hurting, and I no longer have any acid reflux or gall bladder attacks.
What was the toughest part about the Reboot experience?
Dealing with emotional issues that I thought that I had already dealt with, but was instead covering up by eating chocolate until I felt better. This was also the biggest surprise for me as well because there is no area of my life that has not changed because of Reboot with Joe.
What habits have you maintained and kept a part of your everyday life?
I am a vegetarian now, and eat primarily a plant strong diet.
What is your lasting impression of the Reboot experience?
It saved my life.

Did you just juice the whole time or did you have food during that time?
Thank you for the encouragement. on my way to 60 days! SB didn’t help, but i am recognizing my ‘triggers’ faster. I will be ‘quick draw McGraw’ when this is over and my hand will reach for an avocado before a slice of pizza!
Theresa, I juiced the whole time for the 1st 45 days, then I really felt the need to start eating. The thing was that almost everything tasted extremely salty or cheesy, I craved vegetables and fruits as a result I became a vegetarian. I never count calories and eat as much as I want and have continued to lose weight. I have also done several more 1 week fasts.
Tracey, good luck with your 60 days, I found that writing in a journal every night (nights were the hardest for me) really helped with the triggers. I had a lot of emotional “stuff” that I thought I had already dealt with come up.
SO EMPOWERING! I started the reboot adn have lost 31 lbs in 4 weeks. I have hit a plateau and was almost ready to give up! Thank you for your testimony!!
I have found that when the scale stops moveing.the reason was explained .by a doctor as that the body has a way of protecting.the fat storage cells ,picture a grocerey bag as the cell, fat has now burned but why waste ,a extra bag the brain fills it with water, hopeing to save it,storage, eventually.the hording of bags ,cells, the mind rids itself of useless baggage all at once. Result large weight drop all at once,!,,
Congrats, you look great. Hope I can do as well
Thank you for sharing. You look great and have given me encouragement to not give up.
Congratulations Shawnie, 31 lbs in 4 weeks is amazing, you probably needed a little plateau. Don’t give up, I still have a ways to go myself but I have no doubt I will make it.
Thank you for the comments jstflys and Calimom, don’t give up and keep up the awesome job of getting healthy. Setting the intention is a huge first step.
So did you ever do enema’s while you were on the reboot? Most of the other juice fasting literature I’ve read says you have too.
I have a question. I started juicing I love it but not fasted cuz I work 2 jobs with 13-15 hour days. My question is how long can I store the juices and what kind of containers can I use. Thank you!!!
Suzan, no I never even thought about enemas, on this site and I believe it is under the FAQ’s there is some advice and things you can do if you have constipation or diarrhea (you can do a search). I did not have any problems in that area.
You ROCK Sandra!!!
Thank you!
Tony, I make my juice every 2 days and store it in glass jars, however over on Facebook there is a closed group (so no one but the group can see your comments) there is a person who makes gallons of juice and freezes it to use for the week. I believe she uses milk jugs.
Thank you. I’ll go buy some mason jars tomorrow. Can you tell me the name of the group? I am going to the support. Thank you again.
I have been a high raw vegan since Oct. 2011. I am starting the Reboot tomorrow, 14 days is my minimum. Over the past 10 years I have released over 100 pounds. Doing the reboot to just Reboot! I have about 10-15 pounds I would like to release. Thanks for your story too!
I juice daily (pre-Reboot) You want to drink your juice ASAP to ensure no vital nutrients are lost. Remember, we don’t have any preservatives. However, if you have to juice and store, I suggest storing in dark containers, the light helps oxidize it quicker and fill your container to the top, again no air space to decrease oxidation. If you choose to freeze your juice, freeze a small amount first to see if you like it. Best of luck!
Tony, the name of the group is Reboot Friends! They are a wonderful inspiring and extremely helpful bunch.
Thank you. I requested to join. My Facebook name is ashkkr.
Wajeeha, that is awesome! Enjoy your reboot!
Just starting this journey – these comments are very inspiring. Thanks for sharing.
Congrats Sholly, for making the decision to do this, I am forever grateful to this whole process, no part of my life has been untouched from this. I actually went roller skating a couple of weeks ago for the first time in 17 years. I feel like I got my life back. You won’t be sorry.
My life has also been changed for better because of that film! And I also feel much better now when I longboard. Juicing & a plant-based diet also provides a better sence of “connectedness” with everything and everybody else around me.
Finding your testimony was exactly what I needed this morning. I’m starting my 42 day reboot today. Finding a woman close to my age and similar story is more encouraging than you will ever know. Thank you for sharing.
Congrats on starting your reboot, you will forever be grateful you did this. I sound like a broken record but it really did just change everything in my life. Nights were the hardest for me with wanting to just eat and feel better about stuff, I started to journal which really brought a lot of emotional stuff up. I was able to put a lot to rest, things I thought I had dealt with years ago. I found a lot of triggers to my eating thru my journal. Good luck and you should be very proud of yourself.
Awesome! Congratulations! These stories are so inspiring. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you.
Sorry to say, I find all these so called success stories involving weight losses of a pound per day and more quite suspect. They seem to defy natural laws of basic metabolic science!
It doesn’t take a genius to understand enough about basic metabolic science to know that you must burn 3500 calories more per day than you consume in order to loose one pound of fat, and typically the average person will burn about 2500 kcals a day just to exist (resting basal metabolic rate).
Now, if Joe Cross claims that he lost 83 pounds in 60 days, it means he was losing 1.38 pounds per day. To loose 1.38 pounds per day would require a calorie deficit of 5,835 kcals daily (do the math). So, are you going to tell me that juicing somehow magically burns those calories above the 2500 burned in a resting state? To burn those additional calories would require walking about 33 miles PER DAY!
There are a lot of health benefits to juicing, but magical weight loss is not one of them. There are no shortcuts to weight loss. Again, just do the simple math to figure it out for yourself.

your response has made me feel a little better. i am vegan and have been rebooting for 10 days now. i exercise for an hour a day. i havnt lost anything! its most depressing. I didnt go through the 3 day blues, like joe and others have had nor did i get this sudden amazing feeling of wellness. in fact i feel a complete lack of energy all the time and for the first time i have now been fainting after exercise. I have had to reduce the intensity of my workouts to stop this. i just feel like. “how much?” how much is enough for me to deserve to lose weight. i was eating about 800 calories a day. i have been calculating my calories on the juice and i am now averaging about 285 calories a day. my doctor said…there is only one “diet” that has worked and that is the “auschwitz” diet. apart from trying such a ridiculous notion as starvation. i am beginning to wonder if maybe i should go back to a solid diet and start upping my exercise drastically? stories like these somehow dont make me feel hopeful or happy just more depressed. actually its just not fair.
I wish I knew what to say or do to help tyerhann, to be very honest here while I did get way more active, I really do not exercise the way I probably should. I really do not know why this is not working for you, I am not sure how much weight you need to lose but you may need to eat and juice as well. After my fast I used a lot of recipes from http://healthygirlskitchen.blogspot.com/ , I never made anything from here that I did not like, she does not believe in using oil, I do take a tablespoon of omega oils a day as both my massage therapist & hair dresser have told me that I needed too. I really wish you luck in your quest. I spent 15 years feeling it was not fair that my whole family was thin and I would eat the exact same thing and pile on the weight there is probably not a diet out there I have not tried. One thing in this process during the fast that I found really helped was to journal my feelings, so much emotional garbage came up that I thought that I had dealt with years ago. It was pretty eye-opening for me anyway. I really wish you well and that you find what works for you.
Sorry I guess my post above was meant for Potr, the one below for Tylerhann, It’s getting late…
How much do you weight now? I used to weight 100lbs (5’3) and after I started juicing I actually have gained 12lbs and still counting. No more emaciation, yay! So what Reboot does to different people is different. But overall it’s not WHAT you do but HOW you do it that matters. If you’re only focusing on the outcome (weight loss) and completely does not enjoy the process of Reboot, then don’t do it. After all it’s all about how you FEEL.
285 calories is simply not enough! Your body is in starvation mode, and will hold on for all it’s worth to every fat cell in your body. And drink lots and lots and lots of water!
I was 310 lbs when I started my fast on Sept 5, 2011. I planned to fast for 60 days but after 45 days I felt a really strong urge to start eating again, I started my juice fast because when immediately after I ate I would get a stomach ache, I was already skipping meals because of that. I lost 33 lbs in that 45 days, at one point I was losing a lb a day. I have been on every diet out there and I have never lost that kind of weight on any of them. When I started eating again everything tasted so salty, cheesy, and over processed that I craved vegetables & fruits. I started eating a plant strong diet with little processed food of any kind. It took me to November of 2012 to lose the rest of the 92 lbs. I still go on a 7 day juice fast every 2 months or so. I actually still have a lot of weight to lose, but to me juicing is pretty magical just for the fact that nothing else was working for me at all. This has been a total life style change for me. The upfront quick results were what encouraged me to stick with it.
I am 52 years old, over weight and on dibetic, high blood preasure, meds, my goal is to get off the meds. This is my first time fasting, I am on my 8th day and have lost 11 1/2 pounds, I started before the fast intense workouts 3 days a week, but now finding, I do not have the energy to keep doing them. Any suggestions on how to keep fasting and obtain the energy. My first intention was to do this for 10 days, but now I am excited of the wait loss and going to take it day by day. I am also excited to try a lot of the new found recipes and miss eating, especially when grand kids come over.
Congrats Nancy on your weight loss, I can only talk about me and my experience, you may want to ask the nutritionist here or look at the FAQ’s, however I would not be doing intense work outs while fasting. In my opinion your body is already working pretty hard at detoxing. You can go on walks, I found after the first week that I liked to dance. I would put on music and just rock out, it would be fun to do with your grandchildren. Not eating is hard and any socializing seems to be all around food. I just tried to avoid any of that for the 45 days I fasted. When I started eating again I have stuck to a plant strong diet with very little processed foods. They have some awesome recipes here on this site. Congratulations and good look on the rest of your journey.
*luck*
Thanks snood master, I have also started having tight chest in the morning and coughing all the time, is this part of this?
No Nancy, I did not have any coughing or tight chest, I was not a smoker, or around a lot of smog. I live in the beautiful NW by the ocean. If it gets to the point that it is really concerning you, you should probably ask your DR.
Thanks for the info. I am not a smoker, or around it at all, so I think I might give the doc a call. Are you suppose to do more than 10 days of detox? What is recommended .
Nancy, there are several plans on this website under the rebooting tab, All the way from 3 days to 15, so you can tailor the plan that would fit you and your lifestyle best. I did not use a plan, I decided to do what Joe did in the movie and was going for a 60 day fast. At 45 days I had a very strong urge to start eating again so I did. Now I fast every couple months for about a week or so.
Are you able to continue to loose weight that way?
Yes, you should still be able to lose weight. I juice fasted for 45 days and lost 33 lbs, I then ate a plant strong diet for several months and still lost 59 more pounds.
Reduce the intensity of the work-out. The ideal exercise (unless you’re a professional athlete) should always be moderate. I longboard for about 30-40mins a day (with my dogs). Yoga is a good option too. Also, add smoothie on top of your juice.
Hi Nancy, Hope I can help! I too am on meds.and was overweight. 7 yrs ago I had a knee injury and 2 herniated discs. No amount of physio, pain killers or injections could help me . 2 specialists suggested that I have an operation. Thankfully I came across a product that not only helped me lose weight but within 4 months since I started my knee pain and back pain are gone. It has been 3yrs.now My diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol are getting under control and am hoping to get off the meds eventually. I do use juicing with the product but not by itself. My email is gmg2061@gmail.com if you want to contact me. Take care !!
I think what is being revealed by your comments is that science still has a lot to discover about the human body, metabolism, and about weight loss. Its not merely about a single math calculation. Basic metabolic science, as you call it, has nothing to do with ‘natural laws’ – it consists of man-made theories which are fallible – for every scientist who can prove ‘A’ there is another one who can prove ‘B’. Science may figure this out one day, meanwhile, like my doctor says, “I can’t argue with results.”
I was replying to tylerhann, by the way.
Sandra, thank you for sharing your amazing success story! I will be starting my reboot this weekend and will be keeping you in mind while I do. I’m so happy for you!!!
Thank you so much for the kind words Patty, Good luck with your reboot, I am so happy for you as you start this journey, it is going to be one of the most loving things that you do for yourself, you will not regret it.
Sandra, your story is really inspiring me to start a juice fast tomorrow.
take care suzie.
i`m scared of the emotional stuff that is sure to come up , so thanx for sharing your experience.
by the way , you look fabulous!
Thank you so much Suzie, congratulations on your juice fast, you won’t be sorry. The emotional stuff while being hard has been such a release, I am still having the strangest stuff come up, at least it has not all come up at once. I just get something worked out & then I am on to the next one. It has really been good and I am starting to embrace it. Good luck with your journey, it is a very loving thing that you are doing for yourself and you deserve it.
how much weight can you lose in 5 days reboot!!
all i see is success stories did anyone ever had hard time and broke down !!!!
