Hi everyone! A little bit about me; I’m 25 years old, 5’8 , and 268 pounds (first time putting my weight out there for everyone to see! haha). I’ve struggled with my weight since I was young. When I was 19 I found out I had insulin resistance. We spent years trying to figure out what was going on, and it was a relief to finally know what was going on. Later that year I got my weight down and the insulin resistance was gone! Unfortunately, it didn’t last. Long story short, I started taking some medication when I was 23 that caused a significant weight gain, and it was downhill from that point on. Last October I switched my diet to a Plant Strong diet (Fork over Knives) I was losing weight, but VERY slowly. So last Sunday I watched the movie and I was totally inspired! That night I ordered a juicer, and I got it yesterday! I’m so excited to start this wonderful new journey. So far, so good. I was nervous about feeling sick, but haven’t had a problem yet. I’ve made some excellent juices so far, but I’d love to hear some favorites from anyone out there! I’m planing on doing a 30-60 day fast and continuing on with my Plant Strong Diet afterwards. I’m young and I want to live a happy, healthy life!

    Hi Jessica! I’m in the middle of a juice fast right now as well, I’d love to stay connected. I have done several reboots in the past, and do them for cleansing purposes. Stay strong and positive and you can do this girl! Drink lots of water and don’t let others discourage you. I know you can do this, this is a start to your new life!

    Awesome! I think I’m going to make the Sunset Blend for dinner:

    1 large Sweet Potato
    1 medium Carrot
    1 Red Bell Pepper
    2 large Red Beets
    2 Golden Delicious Apples
    1 Orange, optional

    We’ll see how it goes! Sound like it will be good!

    Hi @Margaret! Congrats to you and your husband for starting!! My first day was pretty good, better than I thought it was going to be! I’m a little nervous about tomorrow though. How have your first couple of days been?? Let’s definitely keep up with each other!

    MsJessica, I def want to follow your journey as I start mine, I am a 29 year old mom of 3 currently at 225 lbs, 5’5”. I started gaining when I was 19 (145 lbs) and started a desk job, and was very sedentary. Just gained the last 25 pounds since aug 2011 when I got the Mirena IUD. Found out a lot of adverse reactions, hair loss, hormonal aging, joint pain….so I had it removed and want to start getting healthy, like you I want to be around along time and enjoy life !!!

    Hi Sandy, I’m so excited that you are starting your journey to a healthy life! I’m glad you’re going to follow me, I think we can use all the support we can get! That’s interesting about Mirena.. I don’t have kids, but I that IUD. I also gained weight, as well as some other issues. I had it removed about a year ago, and stopped all my other medications. I’m convinced that the medication I was taking along with the iud was causing me to have a lot of problems. I’m glad that’s all in the past! So have you started the juice fast yet?

    I like the gazpacho a lot. The parsley and the onion give it a kaplowee kick. It’s yummy.

    Hey gang! Today I finished day 5 of my juice-only reboot. (Going for 15 days) I feel very energized! I started my day with beet, romaine, lemon and apple juice. I find the lemon really helps in the morning and it has many cleansing properties. I enjoyed several green juices throughout the day. I piled a bunch of veggies into the blender in the morning and made 4 huge mason jars full (32 oz.) and drank 3 1/2 of them throughout the day. I also made some homemade organic vegetable broth at the beginning of the week and have been sipping on that when I want something warm. I would like to go to a yoga class during this cleanse, but I am still hesitant since I know my caloric intake is lower than normal. Hoping to lose 15 pounds I put on during surgery and cleanse myself from the excess sugar and alcohol intake I’ve had these past few months. My body feels SO good without sugar it’s unbelievable. Just goes to show you how addicting sugar can be!!

    Hey @lovesveggees! Tell me more about the organic veggie broth! I’ve always wanted to make my own broth. Now seems like the best time to learn! You’re so right about the sugar! I think I’ll be fine tomorrow. Even though I wasn’t eat too many refined sugars my body still feels like its going through withdrawals! I’m glad that I was on a vegan/plant strong diet before starting this. The switch dosen’t seem so bad. I started today with a carrot, apple, ginger, lemon juice. I made a bunch of green juice for the rest of the day. I made the V28 recipe but I added a bunch of kale to it. I’m headed to the farmers market now!

    @MsJessica, I did my farmer’s market haul today! Scored some good stuff! I got a huge watermelon and made watermelon juice with the flesh AND the rind. It was soooo tasty and light. Plus, I don’t think watermelon is quite as sugary as some of the other fruits.

    I also tried a V8 today and I put garlic in it, whoooa it was strong! I put like 3 cloves in so maybe that was my problem! I’m still going strong and feeling great. I’m studying for finals all weekend and staying home, so it’s been easy to incorporate juicing. Next weekend the boyfriend wants to go on a mini road trip since our finals will be done, so I think I might have to break my juice fast next Friday, then eat really light on the weekends. But it’s so nice to have a break from the sugar and alcohol!

    I’ve followed a plant based diet for the last couple of years, so the transition wasn’t too hard for me either!! :) I have a cooking blog with lots of healthy recipes and I have my veggie stock recipe posted up there.     You can actually add almost any veggies you want, if you add kale and dark leafy greens you’ll be incorporating even more nutrients. It’s really yummy stuff and I never buy the packaged kind anymore!

    The withdrawals are only for the first few days, it gets much easier I promise!

    Hi everyone I also started on July 13, I am hoping for a 60day but taking it day by day.as this is day 2. Has anyone juiced berries? is bananas ok? I have only had green juice and caf free tea also had a couple table spoons of chia seed (that helped!)

    @sky berries are very tasty, but I use minimally because of the sugar. Bananas do not juice! hehe. Or good luck trying at least :)

    @lovesveggees I made your veggie stock and loved it! Thanks! I feel great today! I lost 3.3 pounds this weekend. Super exciting! I also got a blood sugar meter because of the insulin resistance, and I thought maybe my blood sugar was high because of the juice. My blood sugars are actually lower than they’ve been in years! I was really surprised! I made a bunch of the V28 juice for today. Its easier to make it in big batches since I’m at work all day. I just put two garlic cloves in! :) How was the rest of your weekend? Good luck with finals this week!
