My name is Kelly, and I have about 99 pounds to lose. My goal is to lose 60 pounds in 5 months by switching to fresh juice as the main source of my food, so that I can look much better next to my husband for our 20th anniversary. I intend to have only one regular meal per day (breakfast, lunch, or dinner – it would change based on social schedule), and I am committed to have juice the rest of the day. I have already noticed positive changes with having juice from noon on yesterday, and today (7/25/12) is my first full day on my plan. Are there others out there with similar thoughts?

Hi! I’m Rachael and my husband Joe and i are starting the one meal plan. We have no clue what kinds of foods to eat for dinner. We have an awkward living situation and with our schedules it’s often difficult to cook dinner, but if we make it a point, we can. We both have about 20lbs to lose and just want to be healthy and make sure we have the right nutrients in our diet. We are going to do this reboot for 7 days and hopefully incorporate at least one-2 juices/day from then on. We are both on the road all day for work and will have to take our juice in a cooler. Fast food has been a staple lately and we want it to stop!. Anyone have ideas for dinner?

Hi, Rachael & Joe! My husband and I have been juicing together, too. We follow the juicing with one (veggie) meal a day. Sometimes it’s a salad, sometimes I fix beans, sometimes it’s shrimp and avocado. We’ve both lost 20+ pounds in the past 6-7 weeks. That’s good enough for us. I hope you’re finding your way with the juicing journey!

That is my hope too. I am still trying to motivate myself to get going on this. I have about 50 to lose but would be content with 30. I want to do total juice minus the one meal. Are you just doing fruits and veggies as your meal or are you eating meat? My husband and I are debating the meat aspect for protein.

Welcome EllieMay! I am planning on a regular meal (i.e. toast, eggs, bacon for breakfast, salad with meat for lunch or dinner), at least to start. That said, it is 3PM and I am not hungry yet after only having juice. I am not interested in becoming a vegan or vegetarian, just getting really healthy and losing weight as a nice side-effect. I never have come close to “9 a day” in regular eating, so this is a big improvement. If my plan is too restrictive, I won’t stick with it; so, with switching around WHICH meal it is I eat as needs arise, I have flexibility (that is the plan, anyway).

I just started the Plus Dinner Reboot today. So far so good. I have 75 pounds I want to get rid of. After the three day reboot I’m planning on juicing for breakfast and lunch and having dinner with my family.

    Hi Kelly,
Thanks for starting this group–we “met” earlier in another forum. I’m a newbie, too, and also want to do the one-meal-a-day thing based on social schedule. My hope is that some days I just feel like juicing and not chewing but, like you, I know if I am too restrictive I’ll likely fall off the wagon. This is day one for me. I have 40 pounds to go–goal weight 155. I had salad and tandoori chicken for lunch, so it’s mean green for me tonight! Tomorrow I’ll be set up to juice in the morning and sip throughout the day rather than wait for one big gulp. I want to stay on this program through October 3, when I have a wilderness trip that won’t allow juicing. Let’s go!!!

I thought I’d check in here, too. My first day has been good, and I hope tomorrow goes just as well.
Theresa, I’d love to hear about your wilderness trip.

Hi Shawna, Theresa and Allison! I’m excited to see others joining in here, and would welcome hearing how things are going. It sounds like all had a good first day, and we just have to string a bunch of those together…. I agree – Let’s Go! Kelly :)

Just got the Juicer today. First recipe was the predicted diaster, too much celery and got much more juice than i thought. Was not that bad, i can add another apple or maybe get some plums in the am.
Todays recipe was 4 stalks celery, 1/3 bunch spinach, 2 cukes, 4 carrots 1 granny smith and a piece of ginger root about the size of my thumb. Next go round i’m going to up the spinach and apples.
i’m going freestyle, since i have no regular routine in my life right now. But one meal is easy enough…. i can do that at work. i’m going juice only this weekend and maybe longer. But finals are tomorrow night so friday i’m going to treat myself to curry goat. Before i go herbacious
i’ve got a goal of 30 pounds but the real goal is getting off my blood pressure meds. Heres to Tomorrow J

i'm opposed to Animal Testing ! they get nervous and give the wrong answers

    Hi J,
Part of my goal is about BP, too. I am prehypertensive and the docs are talking about putting me on meds–which I don’t want to have to do. And I, also, had the too much juice issue at first. I cut down to 1 (or even 1/2) cuke and 2 stalks of celery. I couldn’t do that much ginger, though I love it.

Allison, my wilderness trip is a camping trip with friends into the backcountry in Death Valley. We do it every couple of years. Very beautiful, very stark, very peaceful. No cell phone coverage!

Hope everyone has a good day tomorrow!

HI! I’m a newbie as well, but on day 5 of the Reboot + dinner. My doctor has given me 6 months to lose weight and change my diet because my recent blood work indicated pre-diabetes. I reeeeeally do not want to be diabetic, so time to get serious! I need to drop 100 lbs.

My one meal a day is dinner. I enjoy the routine of cooking and eating with the family. The dinners I cook have been “clean,” meaning no sugar, no processed foods, no white flour, very plant and lean meat based. I already feel like my tummy isn’t as bloated. I’m doing the reboot for 10 days, so halfway there! The hardest times for me are between 2-5 pm, and before bedtime. Those used to be high traffic snack times for me, lol. For the most part I feel okay, but I’ll admit that I’m starving. But nothing tastes as good as being healthy feels right?

      Hi Mikki,

I am on day 2 of a total reboot, just juicing and am also “starving” – of course I know that really its just wanting to chew since I have had enough actual nutrition- but you are right- the hardest times for me are also 2-5pm and at night before bed– thank you for pointing that out- so now I can be more aware that this is also trigger times for others.

      Awesome!

Hi everyone! This is the plan I am following at the moment. It really seems to be working. I will probably at least try to be juice only during august but I see the juicing + meal plan as really sustainable and plan on coming back to it once I’m done. It is amazing how much the juices help keep my hunger in check!! I am finally losing weight again!!

I completed 7 days of juicing (only) and was doing fine, but I find it’s too hard to work and not eat at all. Miss my friends lunches, and my family time at dinner. So, today I am changing to one meal a day. I’m super excited because I think without the meal a day I might quit to soon and I don’t want to stop. My BP is down to just above normal in 7 days, so I can only imagion what else good is going on in my body. I’d love you joinj this group and keep on going.

I am a very newbie just collected my juicer today and read the book, been given the all clear by my doctor as I am on medication for depression and Fibromyalgia. I have 20 lbs to lose but most important is I get my energy back, I also suffer from migraines and after watching the film with the lady who stopped having them made me want to try it. My biggest worry is working full time and keeping to the plan, I really want to make a success of this and advise would be great.

Hi J, Mikki, Kat, Karen, and Brenda! Glad to have you here sharing your experiences with us. Mikki – I am surprised you are hungry. Kat and I have said that we are not hungry, and I used to think that it had something to do with the amount of weight to lose, but yours doesn’t fit the pattern (I have 99 to lose, and you have 100). Maybe you have too much fruit in your juices? For all but breakfast, the juice is supposed to be 80% veggie and 20% fruit. Also, when hungry, try drinking a 20 oz. glass of water, and then if hungry still, have a fruit. It is better than reaching for the snacks of the past….

J and Theresa – We hope you can get that BP down. Piece of cake.
Ellie and husband – Start with one juice a day if needed, just start.
Shawna – You have good company in the 75+ to lose on this forum.
Kat – glad to hear that the meal plus juice worked for you in the past. I am hoping for good results. I know it is crazy, but my scale has not changed in the last day-and-a-half since I started juicing, but my big stomach is definitely smaller. That probably means that another part (butt?) got bigger, but there IS a difference. Did you ever have that happen?
Allison – We hope today goes well for you as well! I ordered the rice protein you told me about.
Karen – Congrats on your juicer arriving today! You’ll be surprised how good some of these juices can taste. One I made yesterday (2 meals – 16oz. bag spinach, 2 roma tomatoes, 6 carrots, 6 fresh basil leaves) was really good. I didn’t expect these to be really tasty sometimes.
Brenda – congrats on completing 7 juice only days! I don’t know that I could do it. I do think one meal is more sustainable. How did you get your info on the bottom of your post? That is interesting, and I’d like to do it. Kelly :)

EllieMay – you can come back here when you get your juicer! I will be here for the long haul…. There are two kinds of juicers; centrifuge like my Breville (I got it as a gift) and masticating like an Omega. Some blogs say that the masticating is better because the nutrients are preserved more (not oxidized). If I were to buy one, I would probably get masticating. Also, I didn’t know it, but my “Magic Bullet” had a juicer insert all this time, and I never used it – just mentioning that in case you have one…. Kelly :)

J – on a re-read, I saw you are going through finals. My finals are next week, then a one week break, then Fall semester starts. I should be done with my MBA in December. That is another motivation besides my 20th anniversary – I want to look good for my college graduation, and be more marketable. I love curry (and Tandoori, Theresa!), but goat????? Are you from Australia, or do you live in the states on a farm? I don’t know where one would even buy goat, LOL!

SO glad to find this group of like-minded people! I agree with Ballred57 that to do all juicing means I would miss going out with my friends and family and feeling normal at social gatherings. I started incorporating juice into my diet along with protein smoothies and one meal a day in preparation of starting my fast today. Here goes! I have about 85 lbs to lose which has seemed so daunting that I felt like I had my feet in quicksand. Now to see others trying this out and a forum to share ideas, there is hope! Thanks for starting this post!
