Hello all. I’m new to all of this. I turned 40 this year and decided it was finally time to make some HEALTHY changes. I’ve been battling my weight all my life. I have 2 teenage boys and, like Dana, am currently in the middle of a very amicable divorce. I’ve lost weight here and there in the past, with the biggest loss being via Weight Watchers about 3-4 years ago. I successfully lost about 33 pounds within about a 4 month period, but I have since gained back about 25 pounds after going to school to become a massage therapist. I was never what I would call a very healthy eater, but I definitely started eating terribly during school. The pounds just started to pile back on, and I got back up to about 186. I’m 5’5″. So, I recently started watching documentaries and obviously, “Fat, Sick, & Nearly Dead” was one of the most inspiring. I also watched “The Gerson Miracle”, “Food Matters”, and “Forks Over Knives”. All of them greatly influenced my decision to turn my eating habits around! Since making the decision to adopt a more healthful diet, I have been eating mostly fruits and veggies. I cut out dairy completely, and I had already been a pescetarian (I eat seafood but no other flesh)for some time. I had initially decided to dive right into a juice fast after seeing Joe’s film, but then I read up on juice fasting/detoxing and got somewhat overwhelmed with all the information! I didn’t realize that I would need to also take steps to detox my colon during the fast, otherwise I might end up feeling terrible due to the toxins getting reabsorbed by my intestines. So, I decided to do more reading on the subject before starting a fast. I did start making juice right away, but I’ve not been consistent with it so far. I do feel absolutely AMAZING on the days that I eat raw foods only and drink juice once or twice as well. I really want to do a full 30 day fast, but I’m having trouble getting officially started! My goal is to get healthier as well as to lose weight. I’m not as concerned about the scale as I am about looking better in clothes and wearing smaller sizes! I’m almost popping the buttons on my size 14 pants, and my bra size is OUT OF CONTROL. I WOULD like to get down to about 150 pounds, but if I can get back into a size 10, I couldn’t care LESS about my weight. I am also hoping to clear up my chronic sinus congestion! So, I’m hoping that this forum will help me finally get the motivation I need to fully start the reboot. The main obstacles for me are going to be time management and full commitment. I need to figure out a solid routine so that I don’t give up due to feeling overwhelmed! I’ve never used a support group or anything like this, so I’m really hoping that it will be just what I need!

I am right here with all of you! I started juicing off and on for years but am now ready to go for it. I started two days ago, but broke down and had a piece of garlic bread today. It made me soo sick. I see it as a learning experience and reiterating how much my body really needs this juice fast. It is not so much the weight that bothers me, as it is the migraines, fatigue, crappy attitude and depression that makes me long for a change. I really really am glad for this site and forum…let’s do this. Just think if nursing homes and hospitals started doing this! If I get trough this, maybe that will become my mission. Lord knows the medical establishment needs revamping.

Hello to all, London calling! I am 5″5 and 165 lbs today is day one of a 30/60 day juice fast, not yet decided. I did 30 days previously starting at 181.8lbs, I lost about 28 lbs but put some back on when I stopped juicing. I want to get back on track get down to 126 and re align my thoughts with healthy habits before I end up back at square one. I have been overweight all my life and as a mother of a little boy and two years off my thirtieth b-day it’s time to make things happen. Happy to offer help where I can and am looking for the same from other July rebooters.

I’m picking up my juicer this morning and have tons of veggies in the garden. I’m old and fat and have no energy! (69 years + 200 lbs.) But am really active and an avid gardener. It’s hard to bend down to pull the weeds! I need to do this and I need help. Not sure how to begin, but will start with 10 days and see how that works.

My name is Dennis and today is my first day of the rest of my healthy life. I put off starting juicing this past weekend and I wish I hadn’t. I’m 49 and about 130 lbs overweight. I don’t have any energy and am letting life pass me by. My motivation and commitment to do this is very strong. I will not give up and go back to my old ways. I’m purging all bad habits from my life such as alcohol and tobacco. I thank you all for your support in advance and I’m looking forward to this journey with you. Good luck to everyone.

Hi Denise, I don’t think Dennis is following this thread anymore. At least I haven’t seen him. We’re up to 112 pages and the latest pages are showing only a few of our ranks. If you go backwards from there in the 100′s, you’ll see more of us. Just click the 112 at the top or bottom right hand side of the page to get to page 112. Just an FYI…

Day one!!!! I think I am actually ready for this!! I am 30 years old with about 15-20 pounds to lose. I recently was able to lose 25 pounds bringing me to 143, but after being put on birth control for my skin, jumped back up to 153. I’m tired and frustrated and don’t want to live a life of counting calories so hoping that a reboot can reset all of the damage I’ve done to my body with yo-yo dieting followed by excessive eating and drinking splurges to celebrate my losses only to gain it back. I have already stopped the birth control and am hoping this will also help with my skin and overall energy and feelings of well being! I’m looking here for motivation and support from others experiencing the same things!

count me in!
Day 1 of 30.
Ahhhh the sweet sound of the juicer at 0530 AM. “How I’ve missed you my old friend”.
This morning was fun, and I could tell straight away that been away too long.
First I was greeted by the Wii telling me that it’s been 253 days since my last weigh in and it was happy I was back!
AAannd that’s where the reunion fun ended. Just like seeing a long lost relative after too many years the Wii then quickly told me how FAT I had become ! no … Fats too nice .. the little jerk told me I was obese.. lol (I forgot about that).
So the good news is : I’ve put on 24 LBS since my last Wii weigh in (Nov 11).. not bad considering I was living in Boston for four months (great food and an all expenses paid (I’m lucky in not as big as a house) and having a broken ankle for since January (Boston tried to kill me). Overall a pretty good first day, encouraging even.
The Mean Green this morning didn’t disappoint and I nailed the taste.. I remembered I didn’t like the Ginger so I left it out.. I bought some jalapenos that I will add later this week once I get my routine down.
Ahh now to disappoint my lunchtime co-worker with whom lately have been exploring the great Ramen Noodle shops that Nor Cal has to offer.
Have a good one all !
FYI . this is my second reboot. My first one I lost 30+ LBS in 30 days.. I was going to shoot for 60 days but I was loosing too much weight.
I know, I know.. sounds nuts .You must be logged in to reply to this topic. -

Started Sunday. Adding some raw nuts and a little raw-sprouted protein powder once or twice a day. Blending the nuts in my vitamixer. I feel like this may work for me for a longer fast.
My 12 1/2 year old son who weighs 178 at 5 6′ is joining me with mostly juice and some raw salad and nuts. So we’re emphasizing and raw and started to spout soon. Good luck to you allYou must be logged in to reply to this topic. -

@danaface!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so glad you started this group! I’m happy to be here with fellow misfits where we can all “fit in”!!! I’m starting next Sunday (July 8th) and will be blogging up until then documenting all my pre-juicing experiences.
my stats: 25, 5’8′, 225 lbs, size 16, live in the midwest.
my plan right now is to do a 30 day and possibly extend to a 60 day if I’m feeling like it’s the right thing for me. So we shall see!
i think one of the scariest things about starting a lifestyle change is the unknown and the possibility of failure. who wants to say they’re going to do something and then end up giving up because it was too hard? i’ve definitely had that mindset before, but i’m much more confident now. i love all the support and kindness that you can find on this website, it has inspired me so much to make healthy changes in my life. so my journey starts in less than one week! i am here for support for all of you as well, please feel free to get in touch with me to chat!
Good luck!

Hello Everyone!
My name is Jenn and my husband had me watch Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead the other day. We changed our lives a lot after watching the movie about the guy that ate fast food all the time. I am hoping this will change our lives even more. I am starting today. I would love to make 30 or 60 days but I am going to take it one day at a time. I am going to start today with my new juicer. I LOVE NEW KITCHEN TOYS!I am 36 years old with about 50 pounds to lose over all. BUT my goal is 10 at a time. I have a 3 year old child, a 39 yr old child (husband) and a very busy life. I know it is going to be hard to make dinner for them and me not be able to eat it, but I am willing to try it. I have high blood pressure and would love to get off the medication. My Doctor has recommended WL surgery but I am not sold on it.
It is now or never!! Happy Juicing !!
Does anyone have any suggestions for camping? We are camping for a week the 11th-18th. I don’t want to wait to start. I want to find a way to make it work.

Yay for fellow misfits!!! I’m so happy that you have all joined this group. I love hearing all of your stories and how motivated you are. I know we are going to help each other a lot! I can relate to sooo many things I have seen posted in this thread.
@Miss Lanolin- I was hoping you’d see this and join, being a fellow misfit and all

@unoyin- I will also be using my Vitamix instead of a juicer. I can’t justify spending money on a juicer when I have such a powerful (and expensive) blender. I’m still not sure why some people think that using a Vitamix is “cheating”, seeing how it pulverizes everything (unlike other blenders). The drinks end up being thicker because of the fibers, but I don’t understand why that would be “cheating”. And if you leave out the ice, it’s not a smoothie (not that ice should matter as it won’t add any calories or be harmful in any way.) I’m going to buy a nut milk bag to strain some of my drinks and see if that makes any nutritional difference. Does anyone have more insight? I saw the brief article/chart on this site that shows the difference between juices and smoothies, but there was no major difference that I could detect. If it’s a matter of breaking down the greens and nutrients, a Vitamix can do that as well as any juicer.
@James- Thank you for your entertaining post. Please keep them coming, as I am bound to be very cranky in the near future. PS- you had me at “Boston tried to kill me”.I would like to say something to each of you who have posted, but I have to tend to my kids right now. (Apparently I’m supposed to feed them lunch right now.) Please keep the posts and positivity coming!

Back for a minute while the kids eat lunch…
I also wanted to say that I am having a major dilemma trying to decide what day to start. I was thinking about starting today, but that would make July 4th my Day 3, which sounds like the most hellish day in the whole process. Do I want to be around lots of friends, family, and food on my most hellish day? Not really! I’m worried about putting myself in that situation, being around all that food when I’m feeling the most tempted to break the juice fast, know what I mean?
For those of you who have started (or who have done this before) – do you agree with the consensus that the first 3-5 days are rough? Please share your experiences.
If I wait until Friday, I can get the worst part over with during the weekend, which could be a much better situation. Then I don’t have to be super cranky and feeling yucky at work.
I really don’t know what to expect. As I mentioned before, I have already cut out a lot of crap (refined sugar, caffeine, most processed foods, most meat and most dairy). So maybe my body won’t have as rough a time detoxing as a lot of people experience? Or maybe that has nothing to do with it. Maybe it’s more about the mental aspect of not eating solid foods and regular meals.
Again, any experiences you have had with this would be greatly appreciated! You must be logged in to reply to this topic. -

Danaface– if I remember correctly days 4-5 were bad for me. I planned it well though. I started my fast on a Thursday so I would be most grumpy on the weekend.
This time I’m not too worried as I know what to expect. Plus I know how great it feels once the fog lifts and the dull thud subsides.

Hello to the July Misfits! I “fit” right in~My birthday is this month! ha!
Over the weekend, I watched Joe’s DVD. I was SO impressed with his success! I just bought a juicer & my hubby & I discovered lots of wonderful veggies at the grocery store, that we have never tried before~
I just made my FIRST fresh juice & never used a juicer before & it was fun! I made a “Carrot, Apple, Ginger”to start with~
To tell you a little about myself~I taught Elem. school for 32yrs & just retired 3 yrs ago. I have 2 grown children & one 5yr old grand daughter~I would like to lose about 30lbs.
I printed recipes from this site & bought enough fruits & veggies to make at least 15 different drinks for 3 days~I thought I would try a few & see which ones I like the best.Ha!
Best of Luck to everyone! You must be logged in to reply to this topic.
