56 Year Old Joe R. Feels Better Than He Did at 20

Name: Joe R.
Age: 56
Location: Ithaca, NY
Reboot: 2 60-Day Reboots
Health Improvements: Lost 115 lbs, stopped taking 16 Advil per day for pain, lowered blood pressure from 130/90 to 108/64. Resting heart rate went from 96 to 58 and dropping!
How did you learn about Reboot Your Life?
My chiropractor recommended the movie.
What inspired you to do a Reboot?
The success that the two men in the film had inspired me as did the medical information related by the film.
How did the experience go for you?
It went really well. It was a very spiritual experience that has brought me more in touch with nature and the natural world.
Did you have any notable health or physical improvements?
Yes, see my photo above! Prior to the Reboot, I was beset by constant muscle pain that made it impossible to do the simplest things like opening a jar, holding up a book while reading, getting up and down from a seated position. I could not sleep because of HORRIBLE night muscle pains, and couldn’t even easily re-position myself in bed. Now I run every day and have even placed in the top third of local races. I play softball and can participate in almost any activity. I feel better than I did when I was twenty. I also had GERD but it has since vanished.
What was the toughest part about the Reboot experience?
The toughest part is the social aspect and having to answer so many questions all the time. It is also hard to deal with all the negativity and “concerns” people have about your health. Especially when these are the same people who said nothing while I was eating myself to death! It is hard to repeat yourself and to remain polite when asked repetitive and, honestly, insulting questions. The remarks reveal people’s fears, though.
What habits have you maintained and kept a part of your everyday life?
I am a vegan, and I exercise every day. I treat food as a resource for health and not as a party cruise.
What is your lasting impression of the Reboot experience?
My impression is that I have become a beacon for other people. I am complemented many times daily. I have a new body, new abilities and an entirely new life. Not to mention a new wardrobe.

Thank you! Thank you! I have been looking for the right verbiage to answer the nay-sayers because yes, their input has been very difficult for me too. I am so glad I read your post because now I “got it”. I am now fully “armed” for the right reasons and have my answer!
I have been shy or would feel guilty if I were to respond to the infamous, “How will you get your Protein and Calcium? Your Doctor helps you and what you’re doing is going to hurt you!” and on and on. In effect, I needed to learn how to respond as to why I am eating what our bodies were created to eat in the first place! Amazing to me!
You are right, perhaps with good intentions, individuals have no qualms voicing the negatives about us eating properly – yet they say not a word while you’re killing yourself with literal poison! I understand they’re uneducated like I was not so long ago and yes, it’s true, some just don’t care. However, life is precious and if we care for ourselves and others – by answering them for the right reasons – we truly love our neighbor. Thanks for your post and congratulations!
Thanks for sharing your post . I am juicing twice a day with one meal and I don’t feel like I am losing as fast as I should . I am not eating any meat . Some baked fish . How many times a day did you juice ? I would like to just juice if I can . I am the same age and I had the same issues high blood pressure
Great story — what an inspiration you are! Thanks Joe R.
Wow watched it last night, and get your post about people’s negativity, to the juice that have no interest in you when you are overweight. Just had a green drink right now, and it was really nice.
Thank you I was inspired by the program last night. I am over weight and I am going to give this program a go. I will buy a juicer and will try for 10 days first. Thank you again for sharing your story. Congratulations!!!!
I have been juicing for about 2 months. I did not do the 60 day reboot but I am planning on it, when I buy a second juicer for my job. I have started exercising & juicing 1to 2 times a day, but sometimes miss on weekends. I have noticed a difference in my health with the little I do. I have pericarditis & need to take ibuprofen on a regular basis. I have looked up anti inflamatory foods & trying to stick with that. It’s a long road I will keep you posted with pictures too!
I had what usually amounted to about two quarts of juice a day. Fruit in the morning and pure veggie from then on. Of course if a nice fruit juice was available in a resarant or something in the evenng, i would go for it but that was the basic plan. I drank til I was satisfied. You cant really overdo the veggie juice, fruit has a lot of calories and sugar content tho so dont overdo… Good luck!
I’ve just watched to movie and it was so inspiring! I want to start just juicing for about a month. I have about 50 pounds to lose. How many times a day did you drink the juice? What are the ingredients for the veggie juice? Congrats also. When did you start noticing results? I know I have a lot of questions but I’m very interested!
Kristina,
I see you posted this a month ago…did you give it a try? If so, What are your results so far? I too, need to lose about 50 lbs. Ive been juicing for about 10 days and have lost 11 lbs…feel fantastic but do deal with some cravings, no where near as bad as i thought I would…Just curious if you made it a month…Hope so… Dean
i’m about 4 days in, juicing the original receipt of Joe, Kale, cucumber, green apples, ginger root, celery, not crazy about juice, anyone have any different receipts that i can use?
Thanks
Mike
I have a project called Pharm to Farm where I am sharing stories of people who have healed with natural methods versus pharmaceutical and Western ones. Joe R (and anyone else here for that matter), I was wondering if you would be interested in participating
You can email me at pixieyogi@yahoo.com
Thanks for sharing your story Joe, do you have any tips for people with GERD. Did you avoid acidic fruits and vegetables in the start for instance? Were you taking medication for it and have you since stopped doing so? How easy was it transitioning to becoming a vegan after your fasts? I have been ” flirting” with the idea of becoming vegeterian for a few years now and am even more keen now I have started a juice fast.
I was looking for a rebooter who was my age and you are ! Thanks for sharing your story. I’m very inspired on the evening of day 1 for me! It’s a great story and I appreciate your accomplishment and inspiration.
Reading all the profiles, yours really got to me. Your comment about “food as a resource for health and not as a party cruise” hit home. That is the perfect response to those who are not on board. Thank you Joe!
